A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF ROY ALLEN STEED, JR., OF AIKEN COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were saddened to learn of the death of Roy Allen Steed, Jr., on February 17, 2001; and

Whereas, Mr. Allen was born and reared in Jackson, South Carolina, the son of Constance Risher Steed and Roy Allen Steed, Sr.; and

Whereas, he was a life long farmer and his talent, ability, and hard work were recognized early in his career when he received the 1986 Aiken Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Award; and

Whereas, Mr. Allen was a leader in the farming community in Aiken County and was known for being in the forefront of agricultural developments and for incorporating and promoting the use of sound environmental practices in farming; and

Whereas, in recognition of his commitment to progressive and environmentally responsible farming, he was named the 1992 South Carolina Land Resources Commission Clean Water Farming Award; and

Whereas, Mr. Steed not only operated an efficient, successful farming operation, but also gave of his time and talents in service to the community; and

Whereas, he served as Chairman of the Aiken Soil and Water Conservation District and was a member of the Board of Trustees of Aiken Electric Cooperative and a member of the Silverton Agricultural Club; and

Whereas, Mr. Steed was well respected and admired in the farming community and throughout Aiken County, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him; and

Whereas, he was the devoted husband of Karen Moss Steed, the loving father of Amy Stallings, Beth Johnson, and Carey McKinney, and the proud and doting grandfather of two grandchildren; he was also a faithful member of Jackson Bible Church; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina Senate to pause in their deliberations to honor the passing of one of South Carolina’s outstanding native sons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That, by this resolution, the members of the South Carolina Senate express their profound sorrow upon the death of Roy Allen Steed, Jr., of Aiken County and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Karen Moss Steed.
