A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DR. LARRY K. RAYNES, PASTOR OF PLEASANT VIEW BAPTIST CHURCH IN TAYLORS, FOR HIS THIRTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO HIS CONGREGATION AND THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Dr. Larry K. Raynes received his calling and preparation for the gospel ministry under Reverend Q. C. Rollins at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida, and he was called to the pastorate of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Taylors on January 24, 1971; and

Whereas, under Dr. Raynes’ leadership, Pleasant View Baptist Church has flourished in many different ways; and

Whereas, Pleasant View Baptist Church has broadcast a local weekly radio program since May, 1971, and currently has a broadcast reaching a large portion of central Kentucky; and

Whereas, over twenty families have dedicated their lives to Christian service in the fields of foreign and home missions, pastoral care and church planning, and Christian education, and the church has fostered home and foreign mission projects through its devotion of over half of its annual budget to these causes; and

Whereas, Pleasant View encourages the youth of the congregation to commit their lives to God through a summer camp meeting ministry which the church began hosting in 1980 and expanded to include a winter meeting in 1991; and

Whereas, in 1993 the church strengthened its commitment to young people when it began Pleasant View Christian Academy, which is accredited by the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools and has been instrumental in the lives of many young people in its eight-year history; and

Whereas, in 2001 Pleasant View Baptist Church will open the Pleasant View Boys’ Academy, which will provide a home-like boarding school for disadvantaged young boys; and

Whereas, Dr. Larry K. Raynes has been the guiding force behind these many accomplishments over the past thirty years and under his leadership the Pleasant View Baptist Church has become a strong ingredient in the Christian life of the citizens of Taylors and our State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, hereby recognize and commend Dr. Larry K. Raynes, pastor of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Taylors, for his thirty years of dedicated service to his congregation and the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Raynes.
