  • Proficiency in working in various media and with a variety of web tools
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently
  • Previous experience working as a Research Assistant is an asset

Job Description:

This position is accountable to the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Arts. The research assistant is responsible forperforming duties under the TRaCE 2.0 Project– “Track, Report, Connect, Exchange.” The TRaCE 2.0 Project is a collaboration between Canadian universities and various other partners. Its aim is to build a database about the careers of PhD graduates in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The research assistant will engage (via video call) with University of Waterloo PhD alumni in Humanities and Social Science disciplines, find out where they are employed, talk to them about how they got their jobs, and eventually bring them back to the University of Waterloo as mentors, workshop leaders, advisors, etc.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Data collection and record-keeping, including use of spreadsheets and database management
  • Preparing detailed written reports and/or presentations
  • Participating in discussions and exchanging information with other institutions
  • Connecting with current graduate students and alumni from UW
  • Participating in online interviews, webinars and conferences
  • Lecturing/leading seminars and mentoring doctoral students
  • Webpage development and editing
  • Some travel may be necessary

This position is open to all PhD students in Arts. Graduate students from marginalized backgrounds and particularly Indigenous students are encouraged to apply.

The positionrequiresa maximum of 10 hours per week. The applicant cannot hold any other RA/TA or employment during the same term.

Contract dates: January 26, 2018- April 30, 2018.The rate of pay peris $45.62/hr.
