20.1 – Glossary of Terms Used in the Manual

CFSP – Customs Freight Simplified Procedures

CIF – Cost, Insurance and Freight – A term used in import/export of freight requiring the seller to arrange for the carriage of goods by sea to the port of destination.

DD - Direct Despatch – Delivery direct from suppliers to our customer

Direct to DC – Direct to our Warehouse – Delivery of product direct to our warehouse/s.

EA1 Form – Packaging materials form – Legally has to be completed for all products under the Environment Act 1985

EMC – Electromagnetic Compatibility – This European directive covering CE marking of products. This ensures products sold in the European Union are covered by all the relevant health and safety and environmental legislation.

ER – External Refurbisher – If the stock needs to be refurbished outside of JD Williams

EU – European Union – An organisation of countries formed after the Second World War to foster trade relations.

FCL – Full Container Loads – Full Container Loads either 20 ft, 40 ft or 40 ft high cube

FL – Fulfilment Logistics – This is the arm of our business that runs the warehousing.

FOB – Free on Board - A term used in import/export of freight requiring the seller to deliver goods on board a vessel designated by the buyer. The seller fulfils its obligations to deliver when the goods have passed over the ship’s rail.

GSP – Generalised System of Preferences – Allows for certain imported goods to be bought into the UK at a reduced or nil rate of duty

HQ – High Cube – A size of a container

IR – Internal Refurbisher – The refurbishment of the product is done internally in JD Williams

LDP – Landed Duty Paid – This is when we, the seller, pay for all charges this includes all duty and taxes.

LVD – Low Voltage Directive – This is European directive covering electrical equipment

MED – Merchandise Examination Department – This is a department in the warehouse that checks the quality of all goods arriving and arranges any rectification that may be required.

PLM – Product Lifecycle Management – This is an interactive on-line system that is used by our Buying Team.

QA – Quality Assurance – Our team of Quality Assurance Technicians based at Head Office

QC – Quality Control – This team is based at the warehouse within our Merchandise Examination Department.

RTM – Return to Manufacturer. Sending back returns from our customers to our supply base.

Spec – Specification – The individual information regarding the make up of a product

T/T – Telegraphic Transfer – Method of payment, which is a cable message from one bank account to another bank account

TFs – To Follow – Where we hold a customers order in our computer system until the stock is received in our warehouse

USP – Unique Selling Propositions – Distinct ideas that are a difference between our business and a competitor.
