1. OpenPhotostory3.

2. Select “Begina NewStory”

3. Click Next.

STEP2:Importandarrangeyourpictures

Thingsyoucando:importimages,removeblackborders,rotateimagery,simplephotoediting.

1. Click ImportPictures.Locate thefolderwhereyourimagesarelocated.Ifyouhavenot foundimages,visit of searchtoolsthat canbeusedtolocate digital imagery.

2. Click onyourfirstimage.Holdtheshiftkeydown.Click onthelastimage-thiswill selectall images.Toselect imagesnon-sequentially,holdthecontrolkey downand select. ClickOKonceselected.Theimageswill nowloadinto thetimeline.

3. Toreorderyourimages,clickanddragandrepositioninthetimeline. NOTE:youcanalwaysaddotherimagerybyrepeatingstep2above.

4. OPTIONAL:Oncetheorderoftheimageshavebeendetermined(thismaybe predeterminedina storyboard),youmaywishtoremovetheblackbordersofyour images.Click RemoveBlackborders.Click YestoAll.Click OK.

Reposition imagery by draggingtoanew location in the timeline.

Save Project here.

EditingEffects:RotateandCrop,AutoFixandAddEffect

AddEffect:None,BlackandWhite,ChalkandCharcoal,ColoredPencil,DiffuseGlow, Negative,Outline-Black,Outline-Grey,Sepia,Washout,andWaterColor.

5. SAVEEARLYSAVEOFTEN!!!Atthispoint,saveyourfile. Saveit tothefoldercreated inthePrepstepabove.BesurethatyourimagesandPhotostoryfile areinthesamefolder.

6. Click Next.

STEP3:Addatitletoyourpictures

Thingsyoucando:addtitles andaddeffectstoyourimagery.

1. Click ontheslideyouwishtoaddtexttool.Typeyourtitle intothewindowandusethe varioustoolstochangethefont,fontcolorandthepositioningofthetitle ontheslide.

2. Click Next.

Type title here. Change font characteristics and positioning ofthe title
using the positionicons.

Effects can also be accessed here. Click on the arrows to move through the slides to add text to any image. See effects descriptions on the previous page.

You may wish to add text to slides to create an additional effect. Also consider addinga black image at the beginning of the digital story to hold the title. Adding a black image for a title slide would require producing a black image outside Photostory 3 with a graphics editing programOR accessing right-clicking on the links and choosing Save Target As….

STEP4:RecordingYourVoice-over(Narrateyourpictures)andCustomizingMotion

Thingsyoucando:addnarrationtoeachindividualslide,customizemotionbyadding transitions,pansandzooms,settheamountoftime foreachimage,andpreviewyourmovie.

SETUP:Torecordsound,insertyourmicrophoneintotheappropriateportsinyourcomputer. Configurethemicrophoneandsoundlevelby runningtheSoundHardwareTestWizard.

1. Select theimageyouwanttorecordsoundon.

2. Click ontherecordsoundbutton.

3. Recordyournarration.Clickonthestopbutton.

4. Testyourvoice-overby selectingthePreviewbutton

5. Ifacceptable,repeatsteps1-4.If thevoiceoverneedstoberedone,removethevoice overby clickingontheappropriatebuttonandfollowingsteps1-4.

Step 3. Click this button to stop recording your voice-over.

Step 5: (Optional) if, after preview, you would like to re- record your voice-over, click here to remove the recorded voice.

Step 1. Select the image you wish to record your voice over on.

Step 2. Click this button to begin recording. Begin speakingto record your

voice-over.Step 4. Previews the slide andthe

recorded voice over.

CustomizingMotion

1. Click ontheimageinthetimeline youwishtoworkwith.

2. Click ontheCustomizemotionbuttondirectlybelowthepicture

Go to the next image.

3. Theprogramdefaultstothe motionanddurationtab.Thisallowsyoutodeterminepans andzooms.

4. Click theSpecifystartandendpositionof motion.TheimagesintheStartpositionand theEndpositionwill havehandlesappear.Usethehandlestopositiontheimagesforthe desiredeffect.Intheexampleabove,whenthisimageappearsinthemovie,it beginsas

a largeimageandzoomsinwarduponcompletionoftheimageinthemovie.

Additionaloptions:

Setstartpositiontobethesameasendpositionofthepreviouspicture.Thiswill allow forsmoothtransitionsbetweentheimages.

Setendpositiontobethesameasthestartposition.Usethiseffecttohavenochange throughoutthetime theimageisdisplayedinthedigitalstory.

Numberofsecondstodisplaythepicture:overridestheautomaticfeatureabove,allows formorespecificusercontrolofimagedisplay.

5. Previewtheeffect

6. Savetheeffect.NOTE:thisisa savefunctionjustforthisimageeffect-it doesnotsave theproject.

7. Usethearrowstomigratetothenextimage.

Transitions:

NOTE1:Crossdissolveisthedefaultfunction

NOTE2:Justbecauseyoucandoesnotmeanyoushould.Becarefulwithtransitions.

1. Click theTransitiontabacrossthetop.

2. Theprogramdisplaysthe previouspictureandthecurrentpicturewiththeeffectbetween it.

3. Usethescrollontherightsideofthewindowtoselect thetransitionandpreview.Use thearrowsbelowthetimedisplayto migratefrompicturetopicture.

4. Click Save(again,savesthetransitioneffecttotheslideandnotthefile itself)andthen

Closeifyouaredone.

5. Repeatasnecessary.

STEP5:Addbackgroundmusic

Thingsyoucando:addbackgroundmusic.

1. Click eithertheSelect MusicbuttonortheCreate Musicbutton.TheSelect Button enablestheusertoselectmp3filescreatedordownloadedfromasourceoutsideof Photostory.TheCreate Musicbuttonenablestheusertotakeadvantageoftheonboard musicofPhotostory3.

2. Forourpurposes,wewill usetheCreateMusicbuttontoaddmusic.

NOTE:mp3musicfilescanbeobtainedat freeplaymusic.comorccmixter.org.Filesfrom freeplaymusiccanbeusedroyaltyfree.

Using the pull-down menus, users can select fromdifferent genres, different styles, bands, and moods.

Tempo and intensity controls are also available.

Play to preview the music before including it in thedigital story.

3. Playto previewthemusic.Ifyoulikeit,click OK.

4. Themusicwillnowloadintothetrack.

5. Besuretoreducethevolumeofthemusictrack.Seenextimageonnextpage.

6. Gonext.

Set the volume here to be able to set the music volume appropriately so that the voice over recordings can be heard.

Oncemusic has been added, the delete music

button enables.

Music appears here as a gold bar.

Toaddmorethanonemusictrack,select anotherimageinthetimeline andrepeattheabove process.Thesecondtrackwill appearingreen.NOTE:Photostory3will dropthelevel ofthe first musictracktotransitiontothesecondmusictrack.

Gotothenextpagetofinishyourmovie.

STEP6:Saveyourstory

Thingsyoucando:completeyourmovie.Thisprocessisknownasrenderingandconvertsyour rawPhotostory3file intoa WindowsMediaPlayerfile. Thisisanobviousadvantage-anyPC typicallyhasWindowsMediaPlayerinstalled(machineswouldtypicallynothavePhotostory3), sothat thecompleteddigital storycanbeplayedonvirtuallyanymachine.

Pleasenote:thePhotostory3file isnotaltered,soifyoudonotlikethefinishedproduct,goback toyourPhotostory3file, changewhatyouneedtoandre-render.

Users will typically select this option-this creates a Windows Media File, playable with Windows Media Player.

Select a location to store the file.

Select the proper setting-the default is

640X480 so the movie will render at this screen resolution-this works well for playback on a computer.

Youmaywishtorenderthe movieasa320X240fileifyourintentistopostthemovies online.

1. Select thelocationofthecompletedmovie.

2. Click next.Photostorybuildsyourmovie.

3. Click viewyourstory.
