1. POST:OutreachMusic Therapist

2. LOCATION:Resources for Autism Office base London NW11. Othervenues, as appropriate.

3. GRADE:Starting salary £15,834

4. HOURS:21hours per week. Some evening work may be necessary.

5. ACCOUNTABLE TO:Director

6. KEY RELATIONSHIPS:RFA Art and Music Therapists and other RFA staff; medical staff, school staff; parents; community organisations and other professionals

This post is for 2 years in the first instance. This will be renewable, subject to continued funding.

6. PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

i)To provide music therapy to those who may not have access through more usual channels due to poverty, cultural or language barriers.

ii)To use music therapy to enhance the ability of all those on the autistic spectrum to achieve their potential and to access the wider community.

iv)To assess needs

v)Where appropriate, to recommend, initiate and provide a course of individual and/or group music therapy

vi)To ensure the welfare of clients while in the therapist’s care and at all times to maintain good standards of client care and personal professionalism to establish an effective therapeutic environment

vii)To develop relationships with external agencies to promote and explain music therapy.

viii)To develop training programmes to encourage the appropriate use of music by other agencies providing care and services for those on the autistic spectrum.

ix)To form good working relationships with doctors, teachers, support staff, community leaders and, parents

x)To share appropriate information on children/students with parents, teachers, support staff, medical, paramedical and other professional staff concerned with children/students

xi)To ensure that accurate observations and records of all clinical work are kept

xii)To make available information relevant to clients’ school or other records

xiii)To report to (and attend, if practicable) children’s/students Annual reviews

xiv)To contribute to RfA staff and volunteer in-service training as appropriate

xv)To provide monitoring and evaluation information as required by the Director

xvi)To maintain State Registration with the HPC, and membership of the APMT, and to abide by their Codes of Ethics

xvii)To undertake clinical supervision and Continuing Professional Development in accordance with current APMT and HPC guidelines

xviii)To be aware of relevant current developments within music therapy, autism and special education

xix)To advise on essential instruments and equipment

xx)To comply with all RFA’s policies, including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Equal Opportunities

xxi)To undertake any other duties that the Director may from time to time reasonably require
