Writing Prompts
1. Based on how the room was decorated, the types of questions listed in the survey, and her personality so far, discuss what your first impression of Mrs. Stonitsch is and how do you see the rest of the year being in her class, both academically and personally.
2. Transitioning from middle school to high school can be exciting, scary, frustrating, horrific, or somewhere in the middle. Select 2 adjectives (words that describe nouns and pronouns) of your own to describe your experience transitioning from middle school to high school so far and your expectations for the way the rest of the year will be for you.
3. You now have met at least 5-6 or so new teachers, select one and creatively describe him or her. Explain what you think of this teacher so far, and project what you think his/her class will be like for you for this school year.
4. Many of you live for music based on the sound, the rhythm, and what is being said. For me, I love the lyrics, and many lines of songs have stayed in my head for many years--some of which remind me of different events or people in my life. Tell me of a favorite line or verse in a song, the title of the song, the artist, and explain why this verse "sings" or "speaks" to you. What is so significant or "cool" about these particular words? What does this line, phrase, or verse represent or mean to you in your life?

Painting With Rhythm
Painting a picture, breathing life into an inanimate object, evoking an emotion from a reader, or teaching lessons are only a few effects of the power of words. This same power carries into poetry based on how words are organized into a rhythmic union and the overall effect of their meaning, rhyme, and position in the poem itself. Once poetry is fused with rhythmic sound, a song is born. Some people are reminded of their wedding day, the day they graduated college, the day their parents were divorced, or even the day they broke up with their first loves when they hear a song that quickly sends them down memory lane--especially when they listen to a specific line or verse that will always keep them from forgetting that one moment in their lives. Music is poetry with a pulse, and when something has life, relationships and memories, both good and bad, are created.
When you start a new paragraph, please do not have extra spacing between paragraphs.
