Hours of Work / 22.5 hours per week,
10am – 2.30pm Monday to Friday.
Flexible approach to hours required.
Term Time plus 1 week (39 weeks)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Kitchen this role will provide a service within the catering facility at Colchester Academy.

The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of tasks associated with food production and service in the catering unit. They will be required to comply with all appropriate legal requirements in the catering unit.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

Food Production

  • To assist as directed with all aspects of basic food preparation.
  • To cleanand clear food production areas.

Food Service

  • To prepare counters and dining areas for service.
  • To prepare and set out condiments.
  • To serve hot and cold food and beverages.
  • To ensure there are sufficient food supplies throughout the service period.
  • To clear and cleancounters of debris during service.
  • To clearand cleancounters and service equipment after service.
  • To clearand cleantables.

Cleaning & Washing up

  • To cleardown after service
  • To washup crockery, cutlery, glassware, utensils, etc as required either via automatic dishwasher of hard sinks.
  • To maintain high standard of hygiene and safety within the workplace.
  • To undertake all aspects in the cleaning of equipment in accordance with the cleaning schedule and to complete the cleaning schedule with your signature when the task has been completed.

Customer service

  • Greet all customers helpfully and courteously.
  • Gives customers information about products.
  • To report any customer complaints or compliments to the Manager.
  • Accept payment and give change, including operating a till.

May be required to:

  • Keep limited records (e.g. counter checks and stock sheets)
  • Assist with the preparation and service at special functions.

Key Skill/Experience Requirements

  • Experience of working within a school catering department would be beneficial.
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate is required and if not already attained, then the ability to undertake and pass this qualification is necessary.
  • Experience in the use of risk assessments and method statements.
  • A working knowledge of relevant health and safety processes would be beneficial
  • Ability to communicate well with others.
  • Ability to organise duties and prioritise the tasks at hand.
