BEFORE I'M 21, I'M GOING TO…
Five years ago, Tania Bryant made a list of all the things she wanted to do before the age of 21. She’s now 20 years old. We talk to her what she’s done and what she still needs to do.
InterviewerWhen did you write your list?
TaniaFive years ago my friend, Mia, and I were bored during the summer holidays. Mia had the idea of writing a list of all the things that we1 to do before we were 21.
InterviewerHow old were you?
TaniaWe were only 15 at the time, so we wrote things like ‘learn to drive’ and ‘dye my hair blue’.
InterviewerHave you ever done any of the things on your list?
TaniaWell, we did do some of the things on the list that summer, like going to a music festival in London. But after the summer holidays we2 about the list. I found the list last month, when I3 my room and I was surprised because there were 20 things on the list and
4 I’ve done 14 of them!
InterviewerWhat’s the best thing you’ve ever done from your list?
TaniaAll of the experiences were really cool so choosing one is difficult. I’ve been to some music festivals and they were fantastic. I’ve met a few famouspeople, too. My favourite was Robbie Williams – I met him when he did a gig at my university. Actually, there were a few things on the list that I don’t want to do now, like dying my hair blue. so I changed a few things on the list.
InterviewerWhat did you change?
TaniaWell, I5 a bungee jump or jumped from a plane, but I don’t want to. Now, I want to travel round South America and
6 with dolphins. I also want to do a road trip across Europe and drive across from the far north of Europe to the south.
InterviewerHave you started to do the new things on your list?
TaniaGood question. When I7 my list, I thought about how I was going to do everything. You have to plan. So, to start with I’m going to learn Spanish and I’m going to take a car mechanic’s course. I’m also going to learn how to read maps. And this time I’ve decided
8 the list on the wall in my bedroom so I don’t forget about it!

MY WORLD TRIP
New York
After months of planning our round-the-world trip, Frank and I are finally in New York!
Today is our third day in the city and we’ve done a lot of sightseeing. On Monday, we took a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and then we went to the top of the Empire State Building. Then on Tuesday we cycled across Brooklyn Bridge and had lunch at a restaurant in China Town. We paid $10 and we had lots of different food. Then yesterday evening, we rollerbladed round Central Park – very slowly! The signs say you mustn’t go faster than 40 km an hour. It was my first time on rollerblades, so I only went about 2 km an hour!
We aren’t staying at hotels – we’re staying in people’s homes. Here in New York, we’re staying with a guy called Greg. We met him, and all our other hosts, on a website for travellers. The people on the site offer free accommodation in their houses. Of course, we emailed them before we booked our rooms so we could get to know them.
Tomorrow we’re going to explore some of the museums and art galleries. After a week in New York, we’re going to hire a camper van and drive across the country. We can sleep in the van when we’re between towns. We want to visit Chicago, the Grand Canyon and San Francisco and lots of other places, too.San Francisco
We drove our camper van into San Francisco this morning. After weeks of sunny weather, today was foggy! Our host, Jenny, says it’s often foggy!
Jenny has had some rude guests, so she’s got a lot of rules. You mustn’t speak on your mobile phone after 10 p.m. and you must take your shoes off at the front door. She also likes her guests to help in the house. So we have to make our beds and help clear the table. But Jenny’s really friendly and tomorrow she’s going to show us some of the sights. We’re going to Alcatraz in the morning, then we’re going to have a seafood lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf. It sounds great.
