Part One. Reading (15pts)
A/ Comprehension and Interpretation(8pts)
Read the text carefully and do the activities.
The word ‘Science’ is derivative of the Latin word ‘Scientia’ which means knowledge. Science is probably the most important and helpful subject of study for human race. Inventions and discoveries are generally the direct result of a systematic research work. On certain occasions ,however, inventions are a chance event. For instance, Sir Alexander Fleming accidentally discovered Penicillin when he was attempting to study a bacteria. Some inventions were silly, but even those which were not successful contributed too much to scientific development. Each invention shed some light on the good intention of the inventors and their quest to improve the quality of life.
