A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO HONOR JANICE HUFF, A NATIVE OF THIS STATE AND A STELLAR EXAMPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA’S EXCEPTIONAL ROLE MODELS, ON THE OCCASION OF HER SPEECH MADE TO LEADERSHIP COLUMBIA.
Whereas, Janice Huff, a native of South Carolina, attended Alcorn Middle and Eau Claire High schools in Columbia and later graduated from Florida State University at Tallahassee with a major in meteorology; and
Whereas, Janice Huff was the primary onair meteorologist for three daily newscasts for several years at KRONTV, the NBC affiliate in San Francisco, California, before moving to New York; and
Whereas, in 1992 Janice Huff introduced the nationally syndicated “Weather School” program to the San Francisco Bay Area and today more than 5,000 classrooms participate in the program which promotes science education with an emphasis on meteorology; and
Whereas, Janice Huff joined NBC News Channel 4 in January 1995 as meteorologist for the weekend editions of “Today in New York” and currently she is meteorologist for NBC’s Saturday edition of “Today” and delivers weekday weather forecasts for the cable television channel MSNBC’s program “The News With Brian Williams”; and
Whereas, Janice Huff is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; and
Whereas, Janice Huff has received several honors and awards for her work, including the Bronx Community College’s 1995 “Kaleidoscope Award” for excellence in television meteorology, a St. Louis Emmy Award for “Best Weathercaster” in 1988, and the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for Television Weathercasting in 1985; and
Whereas, Janice Huff is a featured speaker this year at a gathering of the Leadership Columbia group here in her native South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Janice Huff on the occasion of her return visit to the Palmetto State and also congratulate her for successfully representing her native state during her years of professional meteorology work throughout the United States.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Janice Huff.
