A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. JAY PATEL OF NORTH CHARLESTON FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS AS ONE OF THIRTYTHREE DIRECTORS OF LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that in 1998 at the International Convention in Birmingham, England, Jay Patel from North Charleston was elected as one of the thirtythree directors for Lions Clubs International. Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organization with almost one and onehalf million members in over fortyfour thousand clubs in one hundred eightyfive countries; and

Whereas, during his twoyear term which will expire this July, Mr. Patel has spent many hours representing this great organization while serving as an ambassador for South Carolina as he travels around the world; and

Whereas, he was born in Surat, India, moved to North Charleston in 1983, and is a successful businessman and community leader in North Charleston and Charleston County as a motel and apartment owner and operator and is also the owner of a craft and antique store; and

Whereas, a member of the North Charleston Lions Club since 1983, Jay Patel has held many offices within the organization, including club president, district governor, region chairman, zone chairman, cabinet secretary, treasurer, and membership chairman, and service on many other committees; and

Whereas, in addition to his Lions activities, Mr. Patel is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and vice president of the North Charleston Property Association, a member of the Citizen Advisory Council to the City of North Charleston, a member of neighborhood council and a clerk of the election committee precinct. He is also the founder and president of the North Charleston Merchant Association and the Greater Charleston India Association; and

Whereas, his wife, Kamini, is also a Lion, and they are blessed with four wonderful children; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this outstanding individual for his exemplary service as a Director of Lions Clubs International. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Mr. Jay Patel of North Charleston for his distinguished service for a term of two years as one of thirtythree directors of Lions Clubs International.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Patel.
