Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Youth hunting days

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

“Section 509740. (A) The department may select one or more days, which shall be designated as a ‘South Carolina Youth Hunting Day’, in addition to the regular seasons for any species of wild game. The days must be held outside any regular season on a weekend, holiday, or other nonschool day when youth hunters shall have maximum opportunity to participate. The day may be held up to fourteen days before or after any regular season framework or within any split of a regular season, or within any other open season.

(B) Youth hunters must be ten years of age through seventeen years of age. In addition, a licensed adult at least twentyone years of age must accompany the youth hunter into the field and may not harvest or attempt to harvest game during this special hunting event. License requirements specified in this chapter shall be waived for this day for all youth hunters as described above. Daily harvest limits remain the same as allowed during regular seasons for each species of game.”
