Purpose / This unit standard is designed primarily to recognise current competence in people who have experience inoperating in an organisation in authentic contexts, perhapsas part of their work.
People credited with this unit standard are able to operate professionally and ethically in an organisation, in accordance with organisational requirements.

1Unit standards in domain People Development and Coordination are about engaging with and leading people to achieve outcomes as individuals and teams.

2People will be assessed for this unit standard on evidence from authentic experience in an organisational context, with all the expectations and possible consequences of that context. The context may include but is not limited to:

-the candidate’s workplace

-where the candidate is a volunteer

-a cultural, community, or sporting organisation

-a special event.

3The assessment context for this unit standard must be suitable to meet the criteria for Level 5 in the NZQF Levels Descriptors, which are available by searching for “levels descriptors” at

4Organisationrefers to a specific business entity which may be – in private, public, or community and volunteer sectors; a business unit, iwi, or other special-purpose body.

Organisational requirements may include but are not limited to:

-organisation purpose and/or direction

-organisation policies and processes

-compliance: legislative/legal, health and safety

-risk management

-sustainability.

Legislative/legal refers to requirements that derive authority from legislation and/or the law.

5Professional and ethical behaviour refers to appropriate standards of behaviour in relationships with other people, who have a right to expect that personal integrity, respect for people, impartiality, and respect for the law will be demonstrated at all times, together with technical expertise, personal effectiveness, continuing professional development, and an awareness of potential impacts in the organisation’s wider community.

6Assessment of the candidate’s behaviour (1.3) is recommended by attestation, which:

-will explicitly confirm that the candidate’s behaviour has continuously over three months been consistently professional and ethical, and in accordance with organisational requirements

-will be from a credible and authoritative person and in accordance with organisational requirements

-should be from a person with a formal supervisory or management role for the candidate.

Evidence requirements

1.1Professional and ethical issues are identified in terms of own role in the organisation and in accordance with organisational requirements.

1.2Impacts of these issues (1.1) on own behaviour is identified in accordance with organisational requirements.

Rangeat least five impacts, each relating to a specific issue(s).

1.3Own behaviour is consistent with impacts identified in 1.2 and with organisational requirements, continuously over at least three months.
