1920s Advertisement Assignment

The Task:

You are to create an advertisement for a new product that came out in the 1920s. Your advertisement must be in one of the following formats:

·  A 20-30 second radio commercial that you perform

or

·  A newspaper or magazine print ad that you draw

The product you choose to advertise can come from this list:

Automobile / Radio / Refrigerator / Stand-up Shower / Gas Powered Oven
Canned Soup / Canada Dry Ginger Ale / Telephone / Washing Machine / Oil Furnace

Instructions:

1.  Choose a product and decide on a style of advertisement.

2.  Come up with a script for your radio ad, or an outline for your print ad.

3.  Try to create a catch phrase or a jingle for your advertisement.

4.  You must include at least five (5) slang words in your ad from the list given.

5.  Rehearse your radio ad to make sure it is long enough, or work on perfecting the final copy of your print ad.

6.  Be prepared to present your commercial or explain your ad to the class.

Remember:

·  Try to be persuasive. You are trying to convince people that they need your product. How will it improve their life?

·  Give details like; price, where to buy, how it works, can they buy on credit?

·  Be enthusiastic in your performance (remember that a radio ad doesn’t need any visual aids)

·  Try to be accurate. Don’t make things up that aren’t true.
