GLENDA Y. NOGAMI-STREUFERT, Ph.D.

Psychologist and Educator, Army Civilian (Ret)

Glenda Nogami-Streufert has worked with the Army in a number of different positions and specialties. In 1979, she started as a research psychologist at the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI) in Heidelberg, Germany, and then in Washington, DC. She has conducted policy research on first term enlisted attrition, stairwell living (in Germany), Army families, organizational performance, NCO and Officer retention, women in the Army, and Reserve and National Guard NTC training. In 1988, Dr. Nogami-Streufert went to the U.S. Army War College as the Director (Professor), Educational Research, Civilian Student Liaison, directed the DoD Senior Executive Leadership Course at USAWC, and taught Leadership at the Strategic Level. In 1997, she joined the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service as the Director, Workforce Effectiveness and Planning Branch in Washington, DC. When INS was integrated into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), she became the Leader of the Workforce Environment and Effectiveness Group, in the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer at DHS Headquarters. In 2004, she – once again – was with the Army as the Dean of Academics at the U.S. Army Management Staff College at Fort Belvoir, VA. She retired from Federal service with the Army in September 2006.

Dr. Nogami holds a doctorate from Purdue University, and is a graduate of the Army War College. She has written over 80 articles, books, and technical reports in English and German, taught strategic level leadership and decision making in Slovenia, Taiwan, Germany, and presented numerous papers at professional conferences and meetings in the U.S. and abroad. She also directed the Department of Defense Senior Executive Leadership Course at the Army War College. Her awards have included: the Exceptional Civilian Service Award, the “Lamp” from the Center for Army Leadership (CAL) at the Combined Arms Center (CAC), the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Superior Civilian Service Award, the Army Achievement Award, the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, and the National Guard Minuteman Award.
