CALL FOR PAPERS

Call for Papers and Poster Presentations

The Centre for Rupert’s Land Studies is pleased to announce the call for papers and poster presentations for the 17th Rupert’s Land Colloquium to be held 18 - 21 May 2016 at the University of Winnipeg. As well, the Centre is accepting submissions for displays (please see Call for Displays form). Participants are invited to use any means of presentation – paper, poster, and display – to present their topics.

We welcome any submissions related to the history of the vast region of land once known as Rupert’s Land, including but not limited to,Aboriginal and fur trade history, legal histories, treaty history, science, and geography. We will be accepting proposals for paper sessions and poster presentations. See below for more details.

Papers

Papers are generally delivered in sessions of no more than four related presentations. Individuals can submit separate papers that the colloquium committee will organize into sessions. Groups can submit related papers for a session theme of their choice. A chairperson will facilitate the flow of presentations and the question period and discussions that follow. Each presenter will have a maximum of 15-20 minutes to present their topic using their preferred medium, where possible. Oral presentations, slide shows, video, and audio are all welcome.

General Guidelines for paper proposals:

  • Your paper can be any length but in order to allow all presenters time to comfortably present their topic and to allow time for discussion, your presentation should stay under 20 minutes.
  • Complete the paper proposal form which requires the following:
  • Name(s) of the presenters for the paper or session;
  • Submit an abstract of between 150-200 words describing the theme of your paper;
  • State requirement for audio/visual media, computers, etc;
  • Dates that you are available to present;
  • If facilitating a pre-organized group, a list of all the members of that group and the titles of their papers.

Please note that the deadline for submissions is 18 February, 2016. Once your submission is approved, we will post your abstract and the title of your paper on the CRLS website.

Please consider submitting your paper for the selected proceedings to be published after the colloquium.

Posters

As well as paper sessions, The Centre for Rupert’s Land Studies is also accepting proposals for poster presentation and sessions. In poster presentations, information is presented using images, diagrams, and/or text and presented in a poster format.

The posters will be on display during the Colloquium, and time will be allocated for you to stand with your poster and present its contents, or answer any questions viewers might have.

General Guidelines for poster proposals:

  • Posters should be 36" wide (99 cm). They can be up to 36" high (99 cm). They can be printed or hand made. Successful applicants will receive additional information about how to display their posters.
