16th European Championship in mountain running
will be held on July 6th – 9th 2017 in
Kamnik
This prestigious event - the European championship in mountain running has been organised by AZS and Mountain runners club Papež. The Mountain runners club Papež has already proved its great organising skills in 2010 when they organized the World championship in mountain running.
On July 6th – 9th Slovenia will host 25 European teams, around 400 contestants and companions, who will be stationed in Kamnik and its surroundings. On July 8th the Eco resort near Kamnik will be the starting point of means teams, the course will go past the St. Primož church and through the mountain pass of “Pasjepečine” to Mala Planina and on to the finish at Gradišče on Velikaplanina (12 km – 1295 altitude difference). Along the same course there will be two other starting points, for women and junior men under the St. Primož church and for junior ladies at Kisovec. On the day of the event an open race will be organized for all other runners. Numerous runners are expected to join, since it is considered a great honour and challenge to run the course of the European championship.
The Slovenian national team for the upcoming championship is confirmed:
• Tina Habjan, NejcUršič, Tina Hren, Rok Sušnik and Nuša Mali will compete in the youth competition,
• Mojca Koligar, KlementinaLemut, MihaelaTušar, Maja Peperko, MiranCvet, Rok Bratina, GašperBregar and Luka Kovačičwill compete in the senior competition.
The leader of the Slovenian national team at the European Championship is Peter Lamovec, one of the most experienced Slovenian mountain runners. The coaches of the Slovenian national team are Boštjan Novak and BorutMalavašič.
The running spectacle will be enriched by amazing accompanying events:
Friday, 7th of July:
15.00: Press conference for the reporters (Eco resort)
18.00: Official opening with the parade and presentation of the national teams and cultural program (The stadium of friendship in Mekinje);
Saturday, 8th of July at 18.00:
18:00: Ceremonial presentation of medals to the best runners (Eco resort)
This event will be a real festival of mountain running, attended by several thousand people from all over the world. We expect the best European mountain runners, numerous companions and fans. The presence was confirmed by many honorary guests from Slovenian and European athletics, important people from commerce, government ministers and others. This event will join sport, tourism and culture at the highest level. More than 400 volunteers are a part of organizing team and their commitment and dedication is a guarantee for an amazing event.
