COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

Part-time Faculty Pool

Term: Summer 2008 Only

Status: Associate Faculty

Dept: Cosmetology Program

Reports to: Dean of Science, Math & Engineering

Under the supervision of the Science, Math and Engineering Division Dean and the Full-time Instructors for Cosmetology, the instructor will be responsible for teaching theory classes and maintaining the clinic floor activities to include: maintaining safety and sanitation standards, supervising all cosmetology procedures, monitoring student communications with clients, creating a positive working environment for students, staff and clients, promoting teamwork, maintaining student records, teaching dispensary class, promoting program, developing promotional materials, course syllabi and marketing displays, and helping to calculate grades for end of quarter reports; other related duties as required.

The Cosmetology Instructor may also be responsible for salon mathematics, practical exam preparation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificates
  • Successful teaching experience; community college level preferred
  • At least two years recent salon experience
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree preferred
  • Secondary and Post Secondary Vocational Certificates preferred

License:

  • CurrentWashingtonState Cosmetology Instructor License

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY

This is a part-time, non-tenurable, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Cosmetology quarters are 11 weeks in duration. Salary depends on the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Regular office hours will also be maintained according to the above agreement.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • If a teaching position is offered, a collective bargaining agreement exists and membership in the

Shoreline Federation of Teachers or payment of a service fee is required.

  • In compliance with the Immigration and Nationality Act, proof of authorization to work in the United

States will be required at the time of hire.

  • Other conditions that may apply will be detailed upon offer of employment.
