Service Standards for translation and interpretation

IIntroduction

The Translation and Interpretation Service aims to provide the highest quality translation and interpretation services in order to meet the University Mission, facilitate effective information flow and provide accessibility using the flexible language policy of the University in the three specified languages: Albanian, Macedonian and English. The service supports positive communication between colleagues and also between the University and related external bodies such as the Ministry of Education.

VService Standards

V.1 Communication

In the field of communication, the department uses the general Communication Standard of the University in all parts except those which are specific to the Translation and Interpretation Service, as follows:

We will:

●translate and interpret content without comment or change.

V.2 Translation

We will:

●offer translation in three languages (Albanian, Macedonian and English);

●provide the client with a minimum deadline for the finished work which takes into account work priority, volume, complexity and proofreading requirements within the working day;

●inform the client by e-mail of any delay and agree a new deadline;

●translate 6 pages of general written material and up to 6 pages of highly technical written materials per one working day;

●format materials in Calibri, 12 font, 1.0 space line in corporate or agreed style;

●proofread translated materials using authorized proofreaders listed for this purpose, up to 10 pages within 24 hours or longer materials within the timescale of maximum 10 pages per day, or to agreed deadline;

●email translated and proofread materials immediately on completion;

●maintain confidentiality for authorized materials and for discussion or advice given or received for the material.

V.3 Interpretation

We will:

●offer interpretation services in three languages (Albanian, Macedonian and English);

●provide the client with a competent interpreter/s depending on the length of the event and languages;

●provide simultaneous interpretation for a maximum of 1 hour per translator, or consecutive interpretation for a maximum of 2 hours per translator ;

●formally request supporting materials 3 days in advance of the event to maximize quality;

●observe the protocol of interpretation at all times for transmitting information and meaning accurately, fully and without comment;

● maintain confidentiality as required;

●maintain professional conduct and appearance at all times;
