Purpose

The National Certificate in Concrete Core Skills (Level 2) [Ref: 1452] is designed for people wishing to work in the concrete industry. It also provides a means of recognising current competence for those already working in the industry.

The compulsory section and Elective A recognise the core skills and knowledge required by industry for concrete workers, including use of tools, concrete production, concrete testing, health and safety, environmental practices, problem solving, and a broad overview of the requirements of concrete industry work. Elective B offers the choice of a range of core skills relevant to the concrete industry, such as first aid, time management, communication, and driving of forklifts, which can be tailored to each candidate’s individual needs.

The qualification provides underpinning knowledge and skills important to the performance of individuals in all sectors of the concrete industry. It also provides people with the necessary skills and knowledge for entry into any of the specialised trade-level qualifications from the Concrete subfield at Level 3 or above.

Special Notes

Standards 24879, 24880, 24881, 24882, and 24883, or the demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skills, are prerequisites for entry to all qualifications from the Concrete subfield at Level 3 or above.

Persons seeking credit for unit standard 18496 to obtain an F (forklift) driver licence endorsement must hold a current full class driver licence other than Class 6.

Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Transition Arrangements

Version 3

Version 3 was issued following revision to maintain achievability after the compulsory unit standard 8492 expired.

Changes to the structure and content

The qualificationtotal wasreduced from 52 to 49 credits.

Standard 8492 was removed.

Standards 26551 and 26552 replaced standards 6400, 6401, and 6402.

The purpose statement was updated.

People currently enrolled in programmes leading towards the award of version 2 of this qualification may complete that version if unit standard 8492 is registered as achieved on their record of achievement.

People currently enrolled in programmes leading towards the award of version 2 of the qualification who do not have unit standard 8492 registered as achieved on their record of achievement can transfer to version 3. All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to the new version of the qualification.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replaced standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.

Previous versions of the qualification

Version 2 was issued following revision in order to update content in response to reviewed standards and industry requirements.

Changes to structure and content included: the title of standard 3503 and the title and credit value of standard 3490 were updated;thespecial note was amended to specify standards 24879, 24880, 24881, 24882 and 24883, or the demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skills, as prerequisites for entry to all qualifications from the Concrete subfield at Level 3 or above.

People currently working towardsversion 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to version 2 of the qualification.

All versions of these qualifications will be recognised by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation.
