Meb Keflezighi was a late addition to this year’s event as the Peachtree has been on the veteran’s “bucket list” for some time.The Peachtree Road Race, with the USA 10k Championship on the line, will provide a rematch of sorts between Mo Trafeh and Keflezighi who just went head to head for the USA Half Marathon title in Duluth late last month. Born in Eritrea, Keflezighi’s family fled the war torn country as a child and settled in San Diego. Since those humble beginnings Keflezighi has become a three-time Olympian and silver medalist in the marathon at the 2004 Olympic games.

Ryan Hall is touted as one of the best American marathoners today and the fastest currently-competing American marathoner. After his collegiate success in track and cross country for StanfordUniversity, in 2007 Hall became the first American to run a sub-60:00 half-marathon and set the American road racing record which still stands today. Shortly thereafter he began to turn heads with his marathon performances, and was the USA’s top marathoner at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was also on the 2012 USA Olympic marathon team. Bay to Breakers was his first race since the Olympic marathon in London.

This year, Moses Masai won the first ever IAAF-certified road race in Nigeria. Earlier this year he set a new personal best time in the marathon. A two-time Olympian, Masai represented Kenya in the Olympic 10,000m in 2008 and 2012. He holds the course record for the World’s Best 10k run in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with 27:19 set in 2009.

“Abdi” Abdirahman was on the 2012 USA Olympic team for the marathon in London, and was the USA. 20k champion in 2011. He won the 2007 USA 10k Championship when it was run in conjunction with the Peachtree Road Race, and repeated as USA 10k Champion in 2008. He’s a four-time USA 10,000m (outdoor) champion, winning in 2008, 2007, 2005, 2001. Originally from Somalia, Abdi became a U.S. citizen in 2000. He is a Tucson, Arizona resident.
