Funding Information

The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB), through the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, supports programs for the improvement of the juvenile justice system and delinquency prevention. Funds for this program are made available by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 and subsequent amendments (42 U.S.C. 5601 et seq.). Title V of the JJDP Act of 1974was created by Congress to provide funds to local communities to prevent delinquency and provide early intervention efforts.Impetus of the JJAB continues to be on directing funds towards communities that can adequately support viable programs for youth, the administration of funds and sustainability while providing outputs and outcomes that support justification for funding.

The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board is Kentucky’s federally mandated StateAdvisory Group (SAG) on juvenile justice issues. Created in 1997, it has played a pivotal role in reforming Kentucky’s juvenile justice system and creating an effective, equitable system to prevent juvenile crime and delinquency.

PRE-APPLICATION MEETINGS

Any interested unit of local government (fiscal agent)is invited to attend aMANDATORYTitle V pre-application meeting.

Community agencies, schools, non-profits etc. are encouraged to collaborate with each other to develop a plan for application for this delinquency prevention funding.

IMPORTANT: At least ONE (1) individual from a county must be present at ONE (1) of the trainings provided. If a representative is not present; the county will not be eligible for this funding in the current grant cycle.

It is recommended that a county bring a team of individuals, including someone who will assist and/or have oversight of the fiscal management for this grant. The program coordinator, as well, is a very viable individual to have at these trainings.

Note: You need attend only ONE of the four meetings AND only ONE application per county will be considered (It doesn’t matter which one; the list below are only recommended sites and eligible counties).

COLLABORATION for a comprehensive plan and program within a county for a Title V project is highly encouraged and viewed in high regards amongst the committee responsible for scoring and making recommendations for the Delinquency Prevention grants.
