The Breckinridge County Board of Education met for their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. local time at the Breckinridge County Board of Education Central Office.

Superintendent Janet Meeks called the meeting to order for the purpose of organization of the board.

#123. RECOGNIZE BOARD MEMBERS’ YEARS OF SERVICE

Superintendent Janet Meeks recognized Tonia Saettel’s 3 years of service, Joy Campbell’s 4 years of service, Vanessa Lucas’s 4 years of service, Dean Hobbs’s 2 years of service, and Jeremy Mattingly’s 1st board meeting.

Mrs. Campbell made a nomination for Mrs. Tonia Saettel for Board Chairperson.

Chairman Saettel recessed the regular meeting of the Board of Education for the purpose of calling to order the Regular Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Breckinridge County School District Finance Corporation.

#128. RECONVENE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY

BOARD OF EDUCATION

Chairman Saettel reconvened the regular meeting of the Breckinridge County Board of Education.

#129. STUDENT RECOGNITION

Superintendent Meeks recognized BCMS students for attending KYA last month. BCMS was recognized as a Delegation of Excellence. Mattie Pike, Darian Thompson, Brianna Parr, and Elise McCoy had an Outstanding Premiere Bill that was signed into law by the KYA Governor. Alex Burke, Luke Bland, and Noah Parr had an Outstanding Legislative Bill, which was the strongest bill at KYA. It was also signed into law by the KYA Governor. Avery Knochel, Lily Kasey, Makena Shelton, and Camryn Tipton had a bill that passed the KYA House. Chance Peterson and Mattie Pike received Outstanding Speaker awards, and Ethan Priest received an Outstanding Delegate award. Hunter Payne also received the Gavel award.

In addition, the BCMS Archery Team placed second at the Meade County archery tournament. Three students place individually: Kodi Glenn (2nd place), Ethan Tucker (4th place), and Matthew Mercer (5th place).

#131. HEAD START REPORT

Jarrod Brockman, Head Start/Preschool Director, presented his report stating that the management staff met the new Program Specialist from Atlanta along with a visiting Grantee Specialist from Tennessee. Both ladies will be returning several times to assist with the monitoring process.

#132. ESTABLISH REGULAR MEETING DATE, TIME, AND PLACE OF

BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Moved by Mrs. Campbell and seconded by Mrs. Lucas to have the regular meeting of the Board of Education on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. local time at the Board of Education Central Office.

#134. APPROVE REPORT OF YEARLY ASSESSMENT OF THE NUTRITIONAL

AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ENVIRONMENT AND RECOMMENDATION

FOR IMPROVEMENT

Tina Ford, Food Service Bookkeeper, presented a report on the District’s nutrition and physical activity. The report detailed information concerning School Breakfast, School Lunch, and the Summer Food Service Program.

Moved by Mrs. Campbell and seconded by Mrs. Lucas to approve report of Yearly Assessment of the Nutritional and Physical Activity Environment and Recommendation for Improvement.

#135. APPROVE THE 2015-2016 DRAFT BUDGET

Michael Moreland, Finance Director, presented the 2015-2016 Draft Budget.

#136. APPROVE BOARD ATTENDANCE TO THE KSBA ANNUAL CONFERENCE FEBRUARY 27-MARCH 1, 2015 IN LOUISVILLE

Moved by Mr. Mattingly and seconded by Mrs. Lucas to approve board attendance to the KSBA Annual Conference February 27-March 1, 2015 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Moved by Mr. Hobbs and seconded by Mr. Mattingly to approve the Real Estate Donation Agreement for approximately 14 acres located on 14310 East Highway 60, Irvington in Breckinridge County.

Moved by Mrs. Campbell and seconded by Mr. Mattingly to approve interviewing all architects and construction managers for the New Irvington Elementary Construction project on January 16th beginning at 8:00 a.m. local time with a brief work session to precede the interviews beginning at 7:30 a.m. local time.

#143. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Superintendent Janet Meeks recognized board member, Joy Campbell, for being named the 2014 Civilian of the Year at Ireland Army Community Hospital for her work as a Nurse Educator and Case Manager.

She expressed her sincerest gratitude for the property donation from the Crist family for the new Irvington Elementary School.

Superintendent Meeks also reported the loss of BCHS Assistant Lunchroom Manager, Sheena McCarty, who passed away on Friday, December 26th. Thoughts and prayers continue to be with her family.
