November 2012

Dear Friend of Warner Library,

We hope this letter finds you happy, healthy, and in good spirits as we welcome in the new year.

Over the past year, Warner Library has continued its role as a valuable community resource for the Villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. We have once again welcomed more visitors through our doors than the year before, over 164,000, and have increased the number of services we provide in every area. We circulated 208,021 books, CDs, and DVDs into our community (a 4.7% increase from last year) and provided programs for over 14,400 children and teens.

We remain a home for local artists, musicians, and writers who come to share their talents with the community, and offer a vast array of programs and services. These range from our ongoing Chess Club to our Literacy Volunteers to Conversation and Meditation groups to book clubs for all ages--we even started a Song of Fire and Ice Series Book Club in October and discussed Game of Thrones! Talk about hip!

We could go on and on (a LinkedIn workshop for job seekers, a collaborative effort with the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns to sign young children up for their first library card), but you get the idea. We're a community resource, a fact never more apparent than in the days following Hurricane Sandy when thousands of community members streamed in to work, access the internet, charge up their phones and computers, or just spend some time in a warm room while waiting for ConEd to reach their neighborhood. Unfortunately, like all community resources, we're on a tight budget.

That's where this, our Annual Fundraising Letter, comes in. Every year we make a concerted effort to keep our operating costs low even while prices rise for everything from materials to electricity to toilet paper. We thank the Villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow who continue to be strong supporters of Warner Library. In addition, your individual contributions are essential to maintain our beautiful building, purchase new books and materials, and keep up with the advancing technologies driving our industry (have you checked out one of our e-readers yet?).

A lot of organizations are sending you letters right now asking you for money, and while many are worthy of your support, we hope you keep us in mind when you sit down and decide where to send your hard-earned, tax-deductible dollars.

The Warner Library is an absolute treasure, used by young and old and open to the entire community. Please help us build on last year's success by making a generous donation today.

Most sincerely,
