THE WRITING TOPIC FOR THIS UNIT WILL REQUIRE STUDENTS TO USE ALL 20 BEINGAND HELPING (AUXILIARY) VERBS AS WELL AS 20 SEMANTIC FIELD KEYWORD GROUPS TO INTERVIEW THEIR NEW
DISTANCE LEARNING PARTNER making up questions for them. These
verbs are: am, is, are, was, were, do, did, does, can, could, will, would,
shall, should, may, might, must, has, have and had.

THE ABOVE ARE WRITING TOPICS APPROPRIATE FOR ADVANCED WRITING AND FOR USE WITH COLLEGE STUDENTS, ADULTS WHO SHOULD LEARN HOW TO DISCUSS THESE FIELDS IN THEIR ONLINE READINGS & WRITINGS.
These topics are also very good for Collaborative Writing to a distant partner in another culture. These themes may be much better than using a writing text, as students must grapple with more themes and terms than most texts have them do.

Telling a Story Using All 12 English Tenses (HIGHLIGHT all verb tenses used!)

(You may write either a Realistic/Imaginary Story.)

Dr. Loucky’s Teacher’s Example:

1. Present Tense--I teach at Tokyo YMCA College of English now (Dec.1989).

2. Past Tense--I taught (used to teach) in America several years ago.

3. Future Tense-I will teach at Seinan JoGakuin in Kyushu starting in April, 1990.

4. Present Perfect Tense--I have attended many different colleges and visited a

number of different countries so far in my life.

5. Past Perfect Tence--l had never visited Kokura until Nov.1989.

6. Future Perfect Tense--In the summer of 1990, it will have been 3 years since I

have been in America or seen any of my family there. As of Sept.2000 it will have been

20 years since I came to Japan.

7. Present Progressive Tense--I am now teaching at Seinan Jo Gakuin in

Kitakyushu, and I am giving thanks to God for this wonderful opportunity!

8. Past Progressive Tense--I was teaching English in Tokyo for about 3 years

prior to coming here.

9. Future ProgressiveTense--I will be going home to America this summer to

visit my family and I can hardly wait to see them!

10. Present Perfect ProgressiveTense--I have been living and teaching in Japan

for a total of over 5 years now.

11. Past Perfect Progressive Tense--My family had been living in California

before we moved to Tokyo to live in 1987.

12. Future Perfect Progressive Tense-- I would only have been living in Japan for

about sixteen years, since I was home in the States for about 4 years between

the time I lived in Okinawa and the time I lived in Tokyo.)

Topic 1: Use words in SFKA Unit 2 to tell “My Life Story in 12 Tenses”

Topic 2: Homework: Restaurant Story

1. Imagine you go to a family restaurant to eat. Suddenly, an old friend comes

in. Write a story, including your conversation with your friend, which uses all 12

tenses of the English language. Imagine you meet 10 years after Graduation!

2. Please be sure to number the sentences according to tense, following this

same pattern, and underline all your verbs (Doushi).

3. Minimum of 24 Sentences. Maximum of 50 Sentences. Due:
