Manning the Exhibition

The Cairns Art Society will require 'people power' to receive artworks, from 9.00am to 4.30pm on Sunday 29 March and Monday 30 March, and also to dispatch artworks from 4.30pm to 7pm on Sunday 26 April and from 9.00am to 12.00 noon on Monday27. Assistance will also be needed on opening night to help serve food, assist on the sales desk etc. Volunteers will be required to man the exhibition during all opening hours, with two people per shift.

Artworks will need to be delivered the week before the Easter holidays.

Please mark with a cross your preferred shift times (two shift if possible). The draft roster will be adjusted when artists bring in their works to ensure all shifts are covered, after which your shifts will be confirmed.

Conditions of Entry

Closing Date: Cairns Art Society must receive Entry Form by 5pm, Saturday, 14th March 2015.

Number of entries: Exhibitors are permitted to enter a maximum of two artworks (see dimensions) as space is limited. A diptych will be considered as two paintings.

1.  Entry Fees: $20.00 per artwork, payable to Cairns Art Society, and must be submitted with the Entry Forms.

2.  Fees are non-refundable.

3.  Eligibility: Works may be in any medium. Works must be the original work of the entrant. Exhibitors must be a member of an art society or organisation in the Cairns region.

4.  Dimensions :

Two dimensional works - shall not exceed two metres on any side including framing, and not weigh more than 20 kg.

Three dimensional works - the base footprint shall not exceed 60cm at its widest point, and height be no more than two metres. Overall dimensions should not exceed the carrying capacity of two persons. The artwork must be easily transportable, and have a stable base.

5.  Presentation: All two dimensional works must be suitably wired for permanent hanging or display. Coated wire is recommended, to be w I re d, one third from the top of the artwork, and must be attached with D-rings.

6.  Unframed canvases must be professionally presented. Wet paintings will NOT be accepted. If any work is not to a reasonably professional standard or deemed to be unsuitable, CAS reserves the right to reject same. Cairns Art Society will engage a Tanks Curator to co-curate with one member of CAS and their curatorial decisions will be final.

7.  Labelling: Please complete a label for each artwork and STAPLE to the back/ base of the artwork. (Labels as per page 6)

8.  Sales of Artworks: All works must be for sale. CAS will receive 20% commission on all sales. The artist's selling price (including GST, if applicable and CAS commission) must be on the label. CAS will direct the artist to the potential purchaser if delivery of works by freight is required, to organize between themselves.

9. Delivery of Artworks: All artworks are to be delivered between 9.00am and 4.30pm, Sunday 29th March or Monday 30th March, to the Tanks Arts Centre, Tank 4. Late delivery of artworks will NOT be accepted.

10. Collect ion of Artworks: All artworks must be collected from the Tanks Arts Centre between 4.30pm and 7.00 pm on Sunday 26th April after the Tanks Market Day, or on Monday 27th April between9.00am and 12 noon. This is very important as another exhibition is to be set up on the next day. Distant entrants will need to make arrangements to collect or transport any unsold works. Each unsold work not collected by the specified time and date will incur a $25 storage and handling fee.

11. Promotion and publicity: Entrants shall allow their artwork to be reproduced in any media coverage related to the exhibition.

12. In Residence. Exhibitors are also invited to be artists in residence at any time during the exhibition.

13. Manning the Exhibition: Volunteers are required to man the exhibition during all opening hours (two on each shift). Therefore, entrants are requested to offer at least one roster shift on the Roster Form, suitable to their availability, and the roster will be adjusted when paintings are delivered to ensure all shifts are properly covered. Nominations by Cairns-based artists for emergency back-up are also welcome.

14. Removal of Artworks: Purchased artworks may not be removed during the exhibition. The Tanks Arts Centre can assist as a referral service for postal and packing facilities.

15. Disputes: Should any disputes arise for which no ruling has been laid down, the matter shall be determined by the Cairns Art Society management committee whose decision will be final.

17. Insurance: Entrants are responsible for their own insurance, should they require it. All entries are accepted by the Cairns Art Society on condition that the Society shall .not be responsible for loss or damage to any item submitted for exhibition, whether during transport , exhibit ion, or in the possession of the Society.
