Course Title:Technology and Engineering/STEAM
School Year: 2016-2017
What is Technology Education?
During the next 18 weeks, your child will be in the Engineering and Technology Education (Tech Ed) program. The Tech Ed program is an innovative, student-focused program in which the students are exposed to many exciting and challenging technologies. The course offers students the opportunity to understand and use technology in order to become more productive members of our society.
Engineering and Technology Education helps students prepare for and experience some of the specialized tools and skills required for tomorrow’s world of work. This course confronts the need for technology education and connects STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) skills that are required in today’s ever-changing world.

Supplies Needed:
In order to produce superior work, students need the following items:
- 1 Quad ruled Composition Notebook(MANDATORY)
- Available for purchase in the Tech Ed room for $5
- It is the student’s responsibility to bring their notebook to class daily and record daily notes and class information/data. Notebooks will be graded regularly on participation, quality of completion, and organization.
- Headphones/earbuds (required)
- Flash drive (optional)
Attendance:
Attendance in the classroom is very important. It is each student’s responsibility to make up any missed work. If tardy, students may miss completing assignments which will need to be made up. Promptness is the sign of a good worker. It is important to be in class, on time, and ready to work by the time class begins.
Make up work:
Work missed because of absences, field trips, or any other reasons must bemade up before school by scheduling a time with the instructor. The Technology Lab will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:15-8:45 for students to work on these assignments. Students MUST obtain a pass in order to come during this time.
Late Work:
It is the sole responsibility of the student to complete and turn in any late work. Late work will receive a 5pt deduction for EACH day it is late (up to 20pts). Work will not be accepted after two weeks past due date. Work not turned in will receive an “NTI” resulting in a zero.
*In order to earn any credit for late work, students MUST submit a “late work form” for each assignment. This form lets me know the assignment is ready for grading and the reason it was late. This form can be found in the Tech Ed Lab.
Expectations/Discipline:
One goal in the construction of the technology lab was to create the best possible atmosphere for learning. Students’ attitude and behavior are important. Each student is responsible for his/her attitude and behavior. The success of this program is dependent upon how students act and react to their fellow classmates. In order to make this an enjoyable learning experience for all students Crews Middle School has a school-wide discipline plan. This means that if a violation occurs in Engineering & Technology he/she will receive a step on their school discipline plan found in your student’s agenda book. When a violation occurs in class and is cited, parents/guardians will be contacted to discuss which step the student is now on, and the corresponding consequences.
Examples of violations include but are not limited to: consistent disruption, consistent failure to follow directions, defiance, disrespect, damage to property (including Tech Ed supplies).
Once you have read the above syllabus and understand thecontent and requirements for the 2016/17 school year please complete the SHORT online survey located on your child’s Tech Ed e-class page.
This syllabus will remain online throughout the year for your reference.
