It is important to have all entries in prior to August 9th, 2016 for processing. Late entries will be charged an additional $20.00 per form fee after August 9th. Entries must show proof of insurance.

Any owner/rider whose horse competed in a division in which it is not eligible to compete will be liable to disciplinary action by the Cape Breton Exhibition.

The Cape Breton Exhibition Light Horse Show, its officials and show committee are in no way responsible for accident, injury, or damage to any rider, spectator, attendant trainer or other employees, or animals, vehicles, and or equipment.

All fees for entries must accompany the entry form, including the liability waiver. Use separate entry forms for each animal entered. (one per rider / horse combination)

Please remember to review your entry forms to ensure that you have entered the classes you wish to participate in. It is easy to make mistakes or errors on entry forms are the responsibility of the exhibitor. Also, please note: Youth riders who are dressed in English attire must wear a SEI approved helmet.

Owners of Stallions or Mares with Foals please indicate on entry form. Junior Exhibitors are barred from showing stallions.

Any classes with less than 3 three entries may be cancelled.

Ponies 14.2 hands and under are barred from entering horse classes and horses cannot enter in pony classes.

A horse will be considered at 14.2 HH and over. Under ponies are considered at 13.2 HH and under. Over ponies are considered at 13.2 HH not exceeding14.2 HH.

All exhibitors must be prepared to have their animals measured by a show official.

Stalls will be allotted at the discretion of the barn manager and show secretary. Stallions and Mares with foals will be given preference for box stalls. There are only a limited number of box stalls available. The barn manager and show secretary will make every effort to accommodate your animal.

Entry fees will not be refunded unless accompanied by veterinarian certificate before the show ends. Please note: 75% of the fees will be refunded with the certificate.

It is advised that all entries should be immunized against flu within 1 year and at least 1 month prior to the show in case of reaction. Any animal which appears to be ill in the opinion of an official veterinarian will be excused from the grounds.

Please ensure all entry forms and liability forms are signed. Junior member’s entry forms must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Classes with more than 20 twenty entries will be split for judging. Twenty (20) entries and under may be split at the judge’s discretion.

We wish to ensure that all exhibitors and visitors to the Cape Breton County Exhibition enjoy all the events. In compliance with the general rules of the exhibition, all animals (with the exception of those only entered in line classes) must remain on the grounds until 10:00PM Saturday, August 20th, 2016. Please note that failure to adhere to the above noted rule will forfeit prize money and a chance to show at future exhibitions.

In computing High Point Championship, ribbons will count as follows:

Red:5

Blue:3

White:2

Yellow:1

Exception - Gymkhana High Point

In case of a tie for high point, judges will have the option of a run off, or a final decision passed on judge’s discretion.

ABUSE of any animal in or out of the ring Will Not be tolerated and will result in the Rider or Handler BEING EXCUSED AND ASKED TO LEAVE THE GROUNDS.

Age of Riders (local Classification)

A JUNIOR/YOUTH is any rider 18 years and under as of January 01 of the current year.

Classes by age group are as follows:

13 &- under-Riders 13 years of age and under as of January 01 of the current year.

14-18- Riders 14 years of age to 18 years of age as of January 01 of the current year.

Youth- Riders 14 years of age to 18 years of age as of January 01 of the current year.

Senior-Riders 19 years of age and over as of January 01 of the current year.

Small fry Division: Open to riders 10 years of age and under as of January 01 of the current year. Riders can only show in the small fry division, except costume class, family class, pet pony, and 4-H Pleasure. The pony may be shown in other classes. Rider may use any pony not exceeding 14.2HH except in Pet Pony class.

Small fry Gymkhana: NO ELIMINATION, if rider is placed according to the times ahead of those who ride off course. Riders who ride off course are then placed according to times with those who rode off course. Riders off course are placed according to their time as long as the basic course is followed.

RIDERS MUST WEAR HELMETS IN ALL THEIR CLASSES

Please note: ALL HORSES MUST BE GROOMED AND TACKED IN ALL THEIR STALLS

Please note: RING NUMBERS MUST BE WORN AND WORN IN A VISIBLE MANNER, OR ENTRY WILL NOT BE JUDGED. RING NUMBERS MUST BE WORN IN WARM UP RING, OR ANYWHERE ON THE GROUNDS.

For the safety of everyone: Horses are not to be left unattended in the warm up ring. We appreciate your cooperation regarding the above.

*IMPORTANT*

To ensure that all entries are handled fairly, exhibitors are can only drop off a maximum of TWO entry forms that are not your own. Entry forms need to be completely filled out with liability form attached. We appreciate your cooperation with the above.

Perpetual Trophies - please drop off perpetual trophies to the Exhibition Office by August 10th, 2016. If a perpetual trophy has not been brought to the office by this date, the office will contact the holder to make arrangements for pick up or drop off.

If you are in the ring and you are not entered in the class, you may stay in the ring; however, you must pay the post entry fee immediately following the class. It is important to have all classes registered and fees paid in advance. If the exhibitor fails to pay the fee for the class they will not be permitted to enter their next class.

Proof of insurance MUST be provided to the booth.

If entering Maritime Bred; Quarter Horse Pleasure Appaloosa/Paint/Pinto Pleasure: or Morgan Horse Pleasure, a copy of registration papers MUST be submitted to the booth.

Late fees begin after AUGUST 9th, 2016. The late fee is $20.00 per form.

Exhibitors Meeting will be held on Sunday, August 14th@ 8:30 pm it is important to be in attendance.

Prizes will be given out on Friday to the stall which is best decorated. Please remember, you will need permission prior to painting your stall to ensure the décor is appropriate. Even number stalls and Morgan stalls cannot be painted.

For the enjoyment of our visitors and exhibitors the following is mandatory: Cleaning of stalls and stall area including walkway. This area must be kept clean. The barn manager will be inspecting the barns on a regular basis, prizes will be awarded at the end of the week to whichever exhibitor or exhibitors kept their stall and stall areas clean for the duration of the exhibition.

Post entries are $10.00 for a regular class and will be taken up until 5 classes beforehand. Post entries for stake classes must be submitted the day before the class being entered. The fee for post entering a stake class is $20.00

Please ensure you are on time for your classes. The gate will not be held for late exhibitors.

Update on Trailers for Exhibition Week

Only exhibitors and employees will be permitted to park their trailer/campers on the grounds during exhibition week. All exhibitors must register their trailer in the booth on Sunday; trailer fees are $60.00 for the week. Upon registration, you will be given a number that is to be displayed in a window within the trailer. Trailers can be hauled to the grounds beginning Saturday August 13th. We have made some improvements to our facility to accommodate trailers however, we cannot complete the upgrades in one year, please bear with us as we endeavor to make these changes.

We are requesting and encouraging everyone to use their own source of power when possible. This will eliminate the demand for power at peak times and create a more enjoyable week for all.

Employees will register with the office prior to Exhibition Week. .

All bracelets must be worn and visible and if applicable passes must be presented at the gate to enter the Exhibition property. We appreciate your cooperation. PLEASE remember to have your bracelet visible and or pass ready at the gate.

Proper equipment must be used when warming up and in the show ring. Western and English attire must be used; proper footwear and helmets must be worn by junior members.

NOTE: BITLESS BRIDLES CANNOT BE USED IN THE WARM UP RING OR IN PLEASURE / REINING CLASSES!

There is no cross entering during exhibition. A horse cannot be shown under a junior member and senior member competing in the junior age division and senior age division.

Exhibitors:

In case of emergency due to heavy rain, horses may be moved to a horse trailer, removed from the grounds, or kept in their stalls. The main show ring will only be available to accommodate horses after the end of the activities listed on the schedule.

Class Descriptions

Halter Classes (#11-#14):

A halter class is defined as a class where the horse is judged upon its conformation. Horses/ponies are to be shown in hand with a serviceable halter or bridle at a walk and trot. Should stand square on all four feet. Emphasis shall be placed upon type, conformation, substance and quality. Horses/ponies must be serviceably sound.

Showmanship Classes (#15-#18)

Class shall be judged strictly on the exhibitor’s ability to fit and show a horse/pony at halter. The horse/pony is merely a prop. It is mandatory that the judge posts any pattern(s) one-hour prior to the class. The following maneuvers are considered acceptable: lead the horse at a walk, jog, trot or extended trot, or back in a straight or curved line, or combination of both, stop, and turn 90, 180, 270, or 360 degrees or multiple combinations. The judge must have exhibitors set the horse up squarely for inspection sometime during the class.

Road Hack Classes (#1,#4, #29)

Braiding of Mane and tail is optional. To be shown at a walk with a reasonably loose rein, trot, strong trot, easy canter and hand gallop. Only 8 horses to gallop at one time. To be judged on 55% performance, 20% substance, 10% manners, and 15% conformation.

To be shown at a walk with a reasonably loose rein, normal trot, extended trot, easy canter and not to gallop. Judged on 45% performance, 15% conformation, and 40% manners.

Hunt Seat Equitation Classes (#2 #4)

Only the rider is being judged in equitation classes. The class will proceed at least once around the ring at each gait; walk, trot, sitting trot, canter, and on command, reverse and repeat. They shall then line up on command and execute individual tests at the judge’s discretion.

Western Pleasure Classes (# 6, #7, #39, #44, #54, #56, #79)

This class will be judged on the performance, condition, and conformation of the horse; however a minimum of 20% of the judging shall be placed on condition and conformation. Horses must work both ways of the ring at all three gaits. At the option of the extended jog. Horses are required to back easily and stand quietly.

Riders will be judged on seat, hands and ability to control and show horse. Class to be judged on RIDER. The judge must post the pattern at least an hour before the beginning of the class. Rail work up to discretion of the judge.

Small Fry Walk/Trot (#23)

Pony to be ridden independently, not to be lead. Judged as an equitation class. Riders are to be judged on seat, hands, attire, neatness and cleanliness. English or Western. Walk and Trot only.

Children’s Pet Pony (#59)

Ponies to be judged on suitability as a child’s pet. Pony not to exceed 13.2 hands. Walk and trot only.

Trail Classes (#34 &#45)

Judged on the performance of the horse over the obstacles, with emphasis on manners, response to the rider, and attitude. Horses are not required to work on the rail. The course must be designed, however to require each horse to show the three gaits somewhere between obstacles as part of its work and will be scored as a maneuver. The course to be used must be posted at least one hour before the scheduled time of class.

Small Fry Trail (#35)

Judged on both the child’s ability to maneuver the pony through obstacles and the pony’s manners, response to the rider and attitude. Ponies are not required to do rail work. The course is designed to show two gaits, walk and trot.

Maritime Bred Classes

Open to horses whose dam, at the time of conception, stood in the Maritimes. Horses are to be shown under saddle at a walk, trot or jog, and canter or lope both ways of the ring, then stripped and judged on conformation and best of type. To be judged 40% on performance and 60% conformation. Proof of breeding must be presented.

CLASS#38 MARITIME BRED HORSE

Command Classes (#36, #37, #46)

Riders MUST use Western tack and attire. The command class is neither a race nor is a gymkhana event. It is a competition, which exhibits the abilities of a well-trained horse. Entries are eliminated one at a time at the discretion of the judge as commands are not executed correctly.

Versatile Horse (#50)

This is class is to show how versatile a horse is. During this class, the horse/rider combination will perform in an English Pleasure Class, Western Pleasure Class, Complete a Trail pattern and a Barrel Pattern. To be judged on how well the horse can switch between disciplines. Between the English and Western disciplines, the riders will be given a shot amount of time to change their attire and tack; they must have a groom assist them.

Beginners Pleasure (#57)

Open to horses and ponies of any size. Open to any rider who is in their first year of showing with the exception of Leadline. English or Western. Riders are eligible to enter other classes. To be shown both ways of the ring at a walk, trot or jog, and canter or lope.

Small Fry Gymkhana (#62, #69, #72)
See MBRHA rules. There will be no elimination provided the rider completes the pattern. Riders who run off course will be placed according to time below those remaining on course. Riders MUST wear C.S.A Approved Helmets!
