RE: Constituent Visit Day, March 7, 2007
DATE: February 15, 2007
ICASA will host its annual Constituent Visit Day on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, in Springfield. This will be a great opportunity for center staff, volunteers and survivors to meet with legislators and inform them about important legislative initiatives that help sexual assault survivors. Newcomers are welcome!
In addition, next week, ICASA, ICADV and other groups will invite legislators to attend a breakfast in recognition of International Women’s Day and the Work to End Violence Against Women, on March 7, 7:30-9:00 a.m., in the Rathskeller of the Capitol building. We will send you a copy of the announcement soon. We encourage you to also invite your legislator and attend the breakfast together.
ICASA will host a briefing session for Constituent Visit Day after the breakfast. Please meet by 9:30 a.m. in Room 413 in the Stratton Building. During the briefing, ICASA staff will provide legislation, fact sheets, and information regarding legislators to the attendees. After the briefing, everyone will meet with various legislators. Bring your business cards.
Before you come on the 7th, please set up an appointment with your Senator or Representative in her/his Springfield office. You can call the Capitol switchboard at 217-782-2000 and they will connect you directly to any Representative or Senator’s office. The best time to set up an appointment is after 10:30 a.m. if possible. Please note: the Governor will deliver his budget address at noon on the 7th.
A map to Springfield and the Capitol is attached (not with e-mail). Unfortunately, parking in all areas near the Capitol is scarce. If you arrive early, we recommend trying to park at the visitors’ center lot (it is marked on the map; the entrance is on Edwards Street). If that lot is full, you will probably have to park at a meter.
A small block of rooms has been reserved at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, 701 East Adams, for the night of Tuesday, March 6, for those centers who need to stay overnight. If you need a room, contact the hotel directly and ask for the ICASA block at 866-788-1860 before
5 p.m. on Friday, February 23.
Send as many people as possible to Constituent Visit Day! Please return the attached form by Friday, March 2, to indicate how many people will be attending from your center so that we can prepare materials for the participants.
