CLOTHING NEARLY NEW SALE GUIDELINES

Saturday 9th September

10.30am – 12.30pm at The Arts Centre, King’s Hall School,

Kingston Rd, Taunton, TA2 8AA

The National Childbirth Trust is a charity which supports new parents around the country. Every six months the Taunton and District branch hold a Nearly New sale to help with fundraising of which we keep 35% of all sale proceeds. The majority of the money raised goes to head office to finance nationwide campaigns, help lines, training new antenatal teachers and breastfeeding counsellors. The remainder stays with our branch to keep us going on a day-to-day basis, and to support the Early Days Café, Bumps and Babes Groupsand other ventures such as open houses and speed bumps.

You do not have to be an NCT member to sell but we do require you to pre register as a seller before the event. On registering you will be issued with a unique seller’s number which you use to label your goods. Please can you label clearly so we can read the price and your number. Failure in doing this could result in the money being allocated to another seller. We will send you these labels and ask that you do not use any other labels.

Seller Registration: Seller Registration is now fully electronic, using the national NCT online registration system. In order to register for the sale, please click on the following link and follow the online registration instructions.

Once you have registered, your details are saved securely so that registration for future sales is very simple. An admin fee of £3.50 is payable at the time of registration, which is used to cover the cost of the venue, postage of the labels, and the labels themselves. If you sell at both of our Autumn Sales, the admin fee for the Toys and Equipment Sale (on 28.10.17) will be £1.

Seller Payment:Sellers are paid via BACS direct into your bank account, and you are asked for your banking details as part of the registration process. A payment for the value of the goods you sell, minus the NCT 35%, will be with you within 2 weeks of the sale.

On the day of the saleOn the day please bring your items to the hall between 9am and 9.30am and sign the sellers register. Please return any unused labels. Please bring your goods in boxes clearly labelled with your seller number (so you can carry home any unsold items). The Nearly New Sales are run by volunteers, and so we expect sellers to put out their own items before the sale. This is much appreciated.

Collection of items at end of the saleIf you are not staying for the duration of the sale, please return from 12.30pm in order to begin retrieving your unsold items. We will assist where we can in the packing up of your unsold items, however it is the responsibility of the seller to return on time and to ensure that you have collected all of your items. Goods left behind will automatically be taken to a nominated charity shop and a disposal fee may be charged.Thank you to all those sellers who help clear the hall after the sale - the more people who pack up, the quicker we finish!

What We SellWe will accept good quality Children’s clothes from newborn right up to 11/12years (including school uniform), shoes and maternity clothes. Please bring clothes appropriate to the season coming up – in this case Autumn/Winter. Other clothing is welcome, but may be less popular as most people are looking to buy clothing for the next 6 months etc.

Boys and girls clothes are laid out separately using the following age ranges: 0-3 months, 3 – 6 months, 6 - 12 months, 12 - 24 months, 2 - 4 years, 5 years plus. Grouping together several items in a sealed clear bag is a popular way of selling.Outfits can be displayed on hangers (for which we supply clothing rails). If you want to display your children’s clothing on our hanging rails, please provide your own hangers.

Maternity Wear:All maternity wear goes on one of our hanging rails - this allows for a much better display, and keeps items neat and tidy, easing selection. Please provide your own hangers.

***Our Sales are NEARLY NEW sales, so please think hard about the items you are looking to sell with us – they need to be good quality, and items that you would be happy to purchase yourself – we will remove from sale any items that are not up to standard. Please ensure all items are clean, and in full working order with no rips, holes, stains or other damage. Our reputation for quality brings hundreds of potential buyers to each of our sales – it’s beneficial to everyone to keep the good reputation!***

Newborn, 0-3 months and 3 – 6 months Clothing:There are more of these sized items for sale than any other age group. After feedback from both sellers (who want to sell as many of their items as possible) and purchasers of these age groups of clothing (mostly parents to be who want to select quickly and stock up), it has been decided that from now on for these sizes, items must be sold in bundles of a minimum of 5 items. We are unable to take single items.

Items can be bagged or boxed together (shrink wrapped unlidded boxes work well). This will allow for a much better display, and will keep items neat and tidy, easing selection. The only exception to the above will be coats and jackets, and special occasion outfits (wedding outfits, christening gowns etc) for which hanging rails will be provided. Please provide your own hangers.

Bearing in mind the amount of 0 - 6 month clothing that is usually for sale it is worth thinking carefully about how you price your bundles, depending on how happy you are to take them home if they don’t sell.

Sleeping Bags/ Grobags:We provide hanging rails for these items as this is the easiest way to display them, please provide your own hangers.

Please note the Taunton & District Branch can take no responsibility for items which are lost or stolen during the course of the sale.

LabellingSEE PICTURE BELOW FOR GUIDANCE

Please could the top half of all labels be clearly marked with the following: a) your unique seller number,b) a brief description of the item (this helps to stop label swapping), c) for clothing, the age group/size of the garment; d) the price. The bottom half of the label needs to only contain your seller number and the price of the item please.

The label should then be attached to item. If you wish to donate 100% of the profits from an item/s to the NCT, please label as above but replace your seller number with ‘NCT’. Items not priced in units of 10p will be rounded down to the nearest 10p. ie items priced 25p will be sold for 20p. A minimum price of 20p per item only please.

Labelling HintsPlease ensure that labels are attached firmly as they can and do become detached during the sale. Please only attach one half of label and do not put inside bags. Successful methods for labelling clothes include using small labels tied or pinned with a safety pin to the inside of the neck, waistband or through a button hole, placing sticky labels on plastic bags (they seem to stick better to these than clothes!). Please do not attach labels using dressmaking pins as these can cause injury.

Price realistically - overpricing can put people off - think about what you would be prepared to pay for each item at a Nearly New Sale. Price older and more used goods lower than newer and less used ones.

HelpersWe are grateful to all of you who help on the day - a big thank you - we couldn’t do it without you! As an incentive, anyone who volunteers to help at the Sale will have the opportunity to begin browsing before the doors open to the public, allowing volunteers to go straight to the tills when they open.

In order to bring our sales in line with other NCT Nearly New Sales, any sellers who are unable to stay and volunteer for the duration of the sale will be asked to leave the hall at 10.30am – if you are unable to stay and volunteer, please ensure you arrive early, allowing yourself enough time to put out all of your items before 10am – thank you

If you intend to volunteer for the morning of the sale, please let Carly know in advance, so that you can be assigned a role/task. For any other queries regarding the Nearly New Sale, please .
