Expectations:

Students will make every effort to be on time and in class everyday.

Students willcome prepared with chemistry notebook, calculator, paper, pencil, and colored pencilsevery day.

Students willbe respectful of the teacher, other students’ right to learn, and other people’s possessions.

Students will put cell phones away unless instructed by the teacher to use as an instructional tool.

Students will be held accountable to all rules and policies of Bonneville High School.

Procedures:

Students will be completing 6units through the entire year: Matter, Energy, Chemical Reactions, Bonding, Equilibrium, Solutions.

Copies of all assignments, homework, ands notes will be available on my blog.

Students will have bell quizzes each class period.

  • There will be no make-up for bell quizzes.
  • If the student is tardy or absentthey forfeit their opportunity to take the bell quiz.
  • Students may drop the two lowest bell quiz scores for the term.

Students will keep an interactive chemistry notebook that will be turned in at the end of each unit.

The notebook will be divided into units that will contain:

  • Notes
  • Unit Assignments
  • Lab Write-ups
  • Essential Questions with the Answers

Expectations of the notebook will be explained during class.

Unitnotebooks will be due the day of the unit test.

  • Completed notebook includes:
  • All Unit Topic Notes
  • All Unit Assignments
  • All Lab Write-ups
  • Notebooks turned in after the day of the test will lose 25 points each week it is late, up to 100 points.

Students will have a final test for each unit.

Students must get all make-up work the day they return from an absence.

It is the student’s responsibility to get the missed work from me.

If they miss a lab they must get a “lab make-up” report form.

Students will be grading each other’s homework, assignments, and quizzes. I will be the one to grade tests.

Students will keep their work area clean.

Students will be required to work in assigned groups for activities and labs.

Students’ grades will be calculated the following way:

  • Unit Assignments and Homework25%
  • Unit Notebook35%
  • Bell Quizzes10%
  • TestsWeekly Quizzes30%

Students will have the opportunity to complete one extra-credit assignment per term.

Students may earn extra-credit answering questions on my blog.

NO LATE WORK OR MAKE-UP WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED PAST ONE WEEK FROM THE END OF THE TERM.

Lab Agreement and Safety Rules

  1. No food or drink is allowed in the lab.
  2. Goggles must be worn at all times.
  3. Long hair must be pulled back.
  4. Students must wear long pants, shoes that cover the entire foot, and no overly loose clothing.
  5. No horseplay or silly behavior. Failure to follow the lab procedures and rules will not be tolerated.
  6. Never taste, drink or directly smell any chemicals.
  7. Report any accidents to the teacher immediately.
  8. Keep area neat and clean at all times. Clean any water spilled on the table or the floor immediately. If chemicals spill make sure to use the proper procedure for clean up.
  9. Follow directions exactly as they are written.
  10. Absolutely no unauthorized experiments will be performed.
  11. Never heat a closed container.
  12. Always turn off hot plates and Bunsen burners after you have finished using them.
  13. Never return unused chemicals to the stock supply.
  14. Dispose of chemicals as directed.
  15. Do not touch lab equipment until you are instructed to do so.
  16. Never take any materials out of the lab area.
  17. Know the location and use of all safety equipment.

The safety of the students is my main concern. Students who cannot follow these safety rules and any other verbal instructions will lose the lab credit and may lose all lab privileges for the rest of the term.
