What is the Nexus 2248TP-E Fabric Extender?

Nexus 2248TP-E Fabric Extender is an enhanced version of Nexus 2248TP Fabric Extender. Just like the N2248TP, the N2248TP-E 48 100M/1GBase-T host ports and 4 10GE SFP+ uplink ports in a 1RU form factor. Nexus 2248TP-E supports two redundant hot swappable power supplies and one hot swappable fan tray with redundant fans.

Does Nexus 2248TP-E replace Nexus 2248TP?

No. Both Nexus 2248TP-E and Nexus 2248TP will be available and are well suited for General purpose data center applications. N2248TP-E has a enhanced buffering scheme optimized for certain data center applications such as Big Data, Web 2.0 and Market Data. N2248TP-E also features better debug counters.

What software version introduces support for Nexus 2248TP-E?

Nexus 2248TP-E is supported by the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series starting from the Cisco NX-OS 5.1(3)N1(1) Fair haven release. EFT has started and there has been a tremendous interest from the field.

Initially, Nexus 2248TP-E is supported with N5K as parent switch. Target support for Nexus 2248TP-E with N7K as parent switch is current 1HCY12 (Freetown software release). Please check latest software roadmap.

Can the Nexus 2248TP-E be connected to the same Nexus 5000 Series Switch where other Fabric Extender types (2248TP, 2232PP) are connected?

Yes, different Fabric Extenders type could be connected to the same Nexus 5000. One can mix and match a Nexus 2148T, 2224TP, 2248TP, 2232PP, 2232TM to the same upstream Nexus 5000 parent switch. All Nexus 5K can be a parent switch for a Nexus 22248TP-E. This includes Nexus 5010, 5020, 5548, 5548UP, 5596UP

How many Nexus 2248TP-E FEX can I connect to one Nexus 5000 series switch?

·  The limitation is common across FEX and dependent on parent switch in use:

o  Up to 24 FEX per Nexus 5500 platform (L2), up to 8 FEX per Nexus 5500 platform (L3)

o  Up to 12 FEX per Nexus 5000 platform

What connectivity options are available on Nexus 2248TP-E?

The host ports are 100M/1GBase-T. The 4 uplinks ports are SFP+ 10GE. Fabric uplink ports support the low cost Cisco Fabric Extender Transceiver.

What is the difference between Nexus 2248TP and Nexus 2248TP-E?

Nexus 2248TP-E is an enhanced version of Nexus 2248TP. Nexus 2248TP-E features deeper buffers that are specifically optimized for certain data center workloads. The Nexus 2248TP-E also has enhanced debug counters to debug such workloads. Nexus 2248TP-E is identical to Nexus 2248TP in terms of physical form factor, port count and power draw.

Does Nexus 2248TP-E use the same power supply and fan module as Nexus 2248TP?

Yes. Same Fan Modules and power supplies are cross-leveraged between the two models. All Power Supply and Air flow options available for the N2248TP are also available for N2248TP-E.
