Please provide a written reflection on the development and implementation of the activity/assignment utilized during the Flexible Instruction Day. What went well and what did not?

The FID assignment provided a convenient way to incorporate a relevant cultural topic/current event into all of my classes. In Latin I through CHS Latin classes, we have already learned about the current events happening in Syria and particularly what ISIS has done in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palmyra. When I learned that Sarah Parcak, an archeologist, Egyptologist and professor, won the TED Prize for 2016, I wanted my students to learn about her work, find out what her plan for her million dollar prize is, and discuss why her work is relevant and how we can become involved/aware.

Most students were able to access the work easily and most completed the assessment by the end of the weekend. I have few students who need time at school to access the online content.

The only challenging thing for me is the amount of time that students have to complete the assignment. I think two full weeks is too much time to give the students. We did this lesson to prepare to watch the TED Convention speech and to continue to discuss/explore this topic – I will have to wait until after the due date to complete the activity.
