Water is very important for life on the Earth. There is much water in our region There are many rivers ponds and lakes in Belgorod region. The chief rivers are: the Seversky Donets, the Oskol and the Vorskla. In many rivers water is very dirty. Often, The Belgorod Vitamin Factory,The Belgorod Mechanical Engineering Plant dumped chemical wastes into the river Razumenka. That’s why people cannot swim there . In Stary Oskol the water in the river and ponds is
so dirty that it can kill fish. There is not enough oxygen in the water.
The problem of pollution has grown. More and more factories, cars, and trucks add their bad breath to the air. The Instrumental Engineering Plant The Belgorod Asbestos and Cement Plant send a lot of smoke into air. This is also very bad, because nowadays it's difficult to breathe in our city.
Some people’s activities do a lot of harm to the forests. People cut down trees to build farms homes and roads. Many animals and plants lose their homes. This is bad for the Earth’s air too.

Alexey Vasilevich Pogorelov is one of the best mathematics and academician of Russia. He was born in March, 3 in1919 in Korocha. In 1930 his family went to Kharkov, when his father began to work the construction on the tractor factory.
In 1945 Pogorelov ended engineering academy of N.E.Zhukovsky. Since 1947 he worked in Kharkov university, in 1948 he became the doctor of sciences. In 1950 Alexey Vasilevich was winner of State premium USSR, in 1959 - the premium of N.I.Lobachevsky, in1962 he was winner the Lenin’s premium. Pogorelov is author of some textbooks of mathematics.
Vladimir Fyodorovich Raevsky was the decembrist, the poet and publicist. He was born in March, 28 in1795 in a village Hvorostyanka, in the family of a nobleman. Raevsky traveled a lot to the European Russia, he visited Moscow, Petersburg, but the poet spent his summer in Hvorostyanka.
Stanislav Kosenkov is an eminent graphic artist. His works are famous all over the world. He created 40 illustrations to different books. He was awarded with the gold medal for painter. We can find his paintings in the State Tretyakov Gallery and other 14 museums of Russia.
