1. Japan Grant of Yen 1,498 mn for the Improvement of Water Supply Scheme
in Matara District
Objectives:- Ensure the providing of pine bone water supply facilities for 28,655 new beneficiaries and improved service level for 200,000 people in Diyagaha, Kekunadura, Talpawila, Makawita and Weragampita areas.
- Reduction of water borne diseases and water fetching time of women and children.
Scope of the Grant:
- Improve the Malimbada water treatment plant.
- Install clear water transmission pipelines
- Expand the distribution pipeline network.

2. Korea loan of US$ 17.635 mn for Balangoda – Bandarawela Road Rehabilitation Project
Objective:- Ensure the rehabilitation of road section from Balangoda to Bandarawela to improve the accessibility of rural communities and areas to eliminate traffic congestion and enhance road safely in order to help economic activities in Sabaragamuwa and UvaProvinces.
Scope of work:
- Rehabilitate the pavement of the road section from Balangoda to Bandarawela.
- Improve selected bridges in project road section.
- Construct roadside drainage and installation of road facilities.
- Procurement of related goods and services.
- Provide consultancy services.

3. ADB loan of SDR 33,005,000 for Distance Education Modernization Project (1999 SRISF)
Objective:- Ensure the increase of accessing distance and on-line learning programs.
- Support the promotion of public-private partnerships to reduce pressure on public sector enrollment.
- Support the key thrusts of government policy to make Sri Lanka computer literate.
Scope of the project:
- Distance education partnership program to raise quality.
- Private-private partnerships to increase the access to e-learning.
- Capacity expansion of open University of Sri Lanka.
Conditions:
- Under the ADB Guidelines on procurement preference for domestically manufactured goods is given.
- Domestic preference is applied for turn key contracts.
Proceeds of Loan:
- Civil works and equipment/furniture 38%
- Stipends and scholarships 20%
- Training & Consultancy 16%
- Educational inputs 8%

4. ADB (SF) loan of SDR 45,689,000 for SecondaryTowns and Rural Community-Based Water Supply and Sanitation Project
Objectives:- Ensure the delivering of safe water to approximately 969,000 people and provision of sanitation to approximately 171,500 people.
- Increase the financial and institutional sustainability of National Water Supply and Drainage Board.
- Increase institutional capacity of the Provincial Councils, Pradeshiya Sabhas and Community-Based Organizations.(CBOs)
Scope of Work:
- Urban component
-Expand the existing water supply systems in the towns of Polonnaruwa and Hambantota.
-Construct a salinity barrier at the intake in Matara.
-Provide wastewater collection and treatment for BatticaloaHospital.
-Improve drainage in the most densely populated areas of Batticaloa and Muttur.
- Rural component
-Provide an estimated 322,000 people with safe water and 138,000 people with latrines through selected sub projects.
-Provide institutional support for the North Central Provincial Council and for participating Pradeshiya Sabhas and CBOs.
- Institutional strengthening component
-Improve NWSDB’s financial management and regional operations.
-Provide training to water supply system operators.

5. OPEC Loan of US$ 8.5 mn for Road Sector Development Project (Co-financed with ADB)
Objective:- Ensure the reforming and development of the transport sector through the strengthening of the relevant institutions, improvement of transport services and rehabilitation as well as upgrading of 1020 km of provincial and community access roads.
Scope of the project:
- Improve provincial roads, covering the rehabilitation and improvement of approximately 980 km of provincial roads and bridges, comprising 12% of the provincial road network in North Central, North Western, Uva and Western provinces.
- Improve community access roads, embracing the improvement to modified gravel surface standard of approximately 40 km of community access roads.
- Consultancy services, comprising the preparation of design and tender documentation for the selected roads, packaging of contracts, assistance with bid evaluation and contract award and supervise the works to ensure adherence to specifications, established quality standards and the work program.
