Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas Program

Grant Program Summary

1st Qtr. NPSOT Board Meeting 2016

The Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas program continues to grow in both applications and funding. In 2016 we received 72 applications. 63 of those applications met the criteria we set for the program. The criteria follow below.

1) Grant funding was only allowed for native milkweeds and nectar plants.

2) Items not funded included mulch, compost, tools, signage, hardscape materials and non-native plants.

3) Preference was given based on the following criteria:

a) Locations with the specific purpose of environmental education

b) New gardens

c) Larger gardens

d) Public schools

4) No grant exceeds the maximum allowable amount of $400 per program rules.

The total funding amount for 2016 was $16,375.00

Mar 3: Georgetown Garden Club Monarch presentation; 40+/- attendees (1.5 hours)

Mar 20: Completion of Monarch Waystation at The Court in Round Rock with Harley. (1 hour) She is a girl scout working on her Silver Accommodation and very interested in Waystations.

Mar 28: onsite visit to Meridian School gardens in Round Rock, recipient of BBMT grant funds (1.5 hours) with Jessica Boese and Michelle Butcher.

Mar 28: onsite visit to AgriLife Master Gardener (Jane Bowman and JoAnn Beneat) project for wildflower meadow and answer questions about Monarch Waystation certification
