Happy Halloween!!!!
1. Create a new photoshop document with a canvas of 10 X 10 inches, 300 resolution, RGB color.
2. Go onto the class website and copy and paste the three images for today’s lesson into your Creative Projects folder.
3. File and Place the FACE image into the canvas.
4. File, Save As Halloween in your Creative Projects folder. Continue to save while you work.
5. Turn off your background layer so you can see your image better.
6. Use the rectangular marquee tool to draw a rectangle over the girl.
7. Choose the Magic Wand tool with these options:
subtract from selection, point sample, tolerance 32, check anti alias and contiguous
8. Click on an area of white inside the rectangle, you should then see only the girl selected.
9. Right click, layer via copy. Then delete the original face layer and name the copy FACE.
10. File and Place the SKULL image.
11. Turn the FACE image off and use your quick selection tool to cut out the skull. After cutting it out, right click layer via copy, and delete the original Skull layer. Name the new layer SKULL.
12. Turn the face image back on and be sure the skull layer is above the face layer in your layers panel.
13. Hold down the shift key and shrink the image to the size of the woman’s face.
14. Select the SKULL layer and set the blending options (above the layers panel) to normal.
15. With the SKULL layer still selected, decrease the opacity to where you can see the woman’s face coming through, but just so that you see her eyes, not her whole face.
16. Use the MOVE tool (be sure show transform controls is selected in the options bar) and rotate the skull to where it fits over her face.
17. To give the skull a shadow effect, Right click on the SKULL layer, select BLENDING OPTIONS, then choose inner shadow. Choose normal and select a shade of gray. Set opacity to 100, distance to 0, choke to 0, and size to 95, then click ok.
18. File and Place the HAT onto your canvas. Turn the other layers off.
19. Use the Quick Selection tool to cut out the hat, layer via copy, delete the original layer, then name the new layer HAT.
20. Use the eraser tool, set to a small brush size, to erase any areas you missed on the hat.
21. Turn all layers back on, then use the MOVE tool & hold the shift key to shrink the hat to the size it needs to be and move it over top of the girl’s head. You can rotate the hat to fit better.
22. Turn all layers off except the FACE layer. Select the FACE layer and make a duplicate copy of it named FACE COPY. You will make change the appearance of her face on the FACE COPY layer. Use the quick selection tool to select her neck and shoulder. You want to make her neck and shoulder look pale so you will go to IMAGE, ADJUSTMENTS, and adjust the saturation level to make her pale. Continue to use the Quick Selection tool with a brush size of 10. Select areas of her face in small sections at a time to adjust the saturation to make her face pale, too. Be careful not to select her eyes – go around her eyes. You will need to lasso the areas on her cheeks instead of using the quick selection tool so as not to select her eyes. Each time you make a selection go to image, adjustments, and lower the saturation. You also need to make her lips pale. When you have her face lightened you can use the healing brush with a small brush size, hold the alt key to select a pale area, and then cover any areas on her face that aren’t pale.
23. Now we want to move some of her hair over her left shoulder. Using the clone stamp tool, choose a size 21 soft brush. You will pick up a sample of her hair by holding down the alt key and clicking on her hair. Then click and drag her hair over her shoulder. You can also add hair to her right side to give it a messy look.
24. Locate an eerie image you like on Google images, go to the largest size of that image, and copy it. In your photoshop document edit and paste it, hold down the shift key when resizing it so it doesn’t become distorted.
25. With your background layer selected, choose fx to add an effect, and choose color overlay. Choose a color such as grey, black or something that will make your background layer spooky looking. Adjust the opacity of the color overlay so you can see you background image under the color overlay.
26. Select the HAT layer, use the quick selection tool, and then go to image and adjustments to adjust the color so it is a flat black, not a black with the sheen it has as is.
27. In your adjustments panel, select Levels and adjust the sliders of the levels to something you like.
28. Create a text box to type HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Choose a font that is spooky and give it an effect.
29. Save your final as a psd and a jpeg.
