VISTA Basics

To Access VISTA:

1. Click on My Courses on your flashline homepage

2. Under Tools & Research, click on Vista Single Sign On in the upper left hand corner of the My

Courses page.

3. You will see a list of courses. By clicking on a course, you activate VISTA for that

course:

To activate the gradebook in VISTA:

1. Click on the “Build” tab on the upper left, then the “Basic View.”

2. Be sure the My Grades icon is on your Course Toolbar. If it’s not, drag and drop it

there from Add to Course Toolbar immediately above. This action makes grades

available to students.

To set up the gradebook in VISTA:

1. Click on the Teach” tab on the upper left, then the “Basic View,” then Grade Book on

the Course Management Tools.

SIMPLE VERSION: Use what’s already there:

2. Click on “Column Settings” on the far right:

3. Click on the word “Calc” under the “Final” Column.

4. The following dialogue box will appear. Click on the arrow in the drop down box currently showing “Numeric” and choose “Alpha Numeric.” This will allow you to put in a letter grade for each student.

5. Click on “Save.”

6. Be sure that the word “Yes” appears in the “Released to student” row. IF the word “No”

appears, click on it and it will change to “Yes.”

TO ADD YOUR OWN COLUMNS:

Click “Back to Gradebook,” then in the drop down box by “create a column”

Create column: Column Settings

Select the type you want. If you would like to enter your final exam grade in a new column, click

on “numeric.” Insert the requested information and click on “Save.”

TO ENTER GRADES:

1. In the “Gradebook” view, click on the name of the column in which you want to enter values.

2. A drop-down box will appear. Click on “edit values” and VOILA a space appears for entering each

student’s grade. The comment box is for your use only. Comments written here will NOT be seen

by students.

3. Click on “Save” and you’re done.

TO MAKE SURE THE GRADE BOOK IS WORKING:

Click on the “Student” tab and then on “My Grades.” The released grades will appear.
