2.Job Title

Sunday Supervisor

3.Responsible To

Area Retail Manager

4.Job Purpose

To effectively manage and develop a YMCA Shop in accordance with YMCA Shops procedures to maximize shop sales and profits and to present a professional image to the public.

5.Main Responsibilities

  • To achieve specified sales and profit targets for the shop, reporting performance weekly to the Area Retail Manager on the Monday following the week-end.
  • To recruit, train and manage volunteers, ensuring that the shop is adequately staffed and that a high standard of customer service, support, information and guidance is provided in order to achieve optimum trading performance and a minimum of 48 trading hours per week.
  • To be responsible for the day to day management of all paid staff (where applicable) in fulfilling the overall responsibilities of the position.
  • To ensure that donated stock density, rotation, display, space allocation, selection and pricing policies, presentation, use of all promotional materials and all other relevant operational standards.
  • To ensure all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to and accurate records kept where necessary.
  • To ensure that New Goods stock controls and procedures and the procedures for the sorting of Donated Stock are maintained and managed.
  • To be responsible for acquiring donated stock for the shop.
  • To ensure that all cash and security controls and procedures are adhered to, Including the security and accurate counting of new goods
  • To comply with and implement, as appropriate, policies or instructions issued by YMCA England, and within the timescales set.
  • To attend training and management meetings as requested, also to carry out any additional tasks as reasonably required within the post holders skills and competence.
  • To report all absences and record and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Operates within the guidelines and policies of YMCA Shops as defined in the Operations Manual
  • Reports to the Area Retail Manager, decision making being defined and restricted.

  • Operates a YMCA shop in order to achieve specified sales and profit targets.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Good standard of education to include Math’s and English

Experience

Supervising or management experience

Ability and Skills

Strong management, leadership and motivational skills

Ability to cope with competing and changing demands, organizing and prioritizing accordingly

Successfully delegate tasks in a task orientated environment

Ability to communicate and liaise effectively at all levels

Ability to work effectively, unsupervised

Terms and Conditions

Salary: As notified by the Area Retail Manager

Hours/ Days of Work:As notified by the Area Retail Manager

But will include Sundays and Bank holidays

Holiday Entitlement:Up to 4 weeks per annum (pro-rata to the hours worked per week if part-time).

YMCA Sickness Pay:During your probationary period, normally the first six months of employment, you will be eligible to receive Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) only. From six months to twelve months of employment, in addition to SSP, you will be eligible to receive one week of your normal weekly pay as occupational sick pay allowance for each completed month of service thereafter, from the first day of absence totaling a maximum of six weeks.

Pension Scheme:Contributory

Life Assurance:A life assurance scheme is in operation for employees who do not join the pension scheme. A sum of twice the basic annual salary is paid to the next of kin or estate in the event of death in service

Notice period:Entitled to give/receive four weeks written notice

One week during probationary period
