Dear 4-H Member:
Marin County All Star is the highest county 4-H rank. It is based upon achievement in leadership, citizenship, publicity/promotion, and outreach.
The requirements to become a Marin CountyAll Star include:
1. Applicant must have attained Gold Star rank.
2. Applicant must be at least 14 years old before December 31st of the program year.
3. Applicant must have been enrolled in 4-H during the past program year.
4. Applicant must attend an orientation meeting with the County All Star Advisor to review the All Star process.
5. Applicant must complete the 4-H All Star Application and file it with the 4-H Program Representative.
6. Applicant must participate in an All Star Applicant Interview.
7. Applicant must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0
8. Applicant must have made a significant contribution to 4-H
9. Applicant must know what the All Star responsibilities entail
10. Applicant must have ideas for an All Star project.
11. Applicant must have demonstrated qualities that reflect the 4-H 6 C’s (Contribution, Competence, Connection, Character, caring and confidence
such as:
●Strong guidance & leadership abilities
●Citizenship
●Active interest in local and county events
●4-H club and county involvement
●Ability to work with groups
●Maturity of judgment
●Strong interest and enthusiasm for continuing in 4-H
●Being a positive role model
●Enjoyment of public speaking
●Ability to follow directions
●Ability to learn from experiences
●Ability to abide by the 4-H code of conduct.
Marin County All Star responsibilities include:
●Serving as a member of the Marin County 4-H Leadership Team to help plan, conduct, and evaluate county and regional events.
● All Stars will develop and implement an individual service project that has a permanent and lasting effect on 4-H in Marin County.
●Taking an active role in at least two of the following events: Achievement Day, 4-H Club Officer Training, Mini-Day Camp, County Presentation Day, County Record Book Judging, and CAL (Creating A Leader) Regional Teen Conference.
●Planning and carrying out promotional activities to publicize the Marin County 4-H program. For example:
oMaking a presentation to the Marin County Board of Supervisors during National 4-H Week.
oMaking a presentation to a city/town council or local service organization (Lions, Rotary, Grange, etc.).
oWriting an article about 4-H for a local newspaper
oCreating a 4-H display in a local library, business, or event (e.g. Marin County Fair).
●Attending State Leadership Conference which is usually held in late July/earlyAugust each year.
●All Stars will serve in a county leadership role, in consultation with the All Star Advisor and the 4-H Program Representative.
●Being able to commit to and accomplish all the duties of being an All Star as outlined it the Marin County All Star Manual.
●Attending a County 4-H Council meeting to provide a Leadership Team end-of-year report.
●All Stars will be responsible for any costs involved with the role of Marin All Star.

Instructions: Essays and plan should be typed, 12-point font, double spaced on 8.5 X 11 inch paper. Please place all documents in a manila envelope to submit to the 4-H Office. Be sure you, your parent/guardian and your Community Club Leader sign in the designated places.
1. Essay
Write two essays, 50-100 words each. Please include the title, as written below, on the essays.
●Why do you want to be a Marin County All Star? How do you feel you can contribute to the 4-H program in your role as an All Star?
●Select one of the following questions for your second essay:
oDescribe an experience you have had involving teamwork.
oDescribe a personal achievement that you felt was a real accomplishment.
2. Plan of Action
Develop a Plan of Action for a leadership or community service/service learning project that you will plan, publicize, and carry out at the county level that will have a lasting effect for the Marin County 4-H Program. This could involve taking a leadership role in a current 4-H event (West Marin Fair, Presentation Day, Marin County Farm Day, etc.) or creating a new event/project.

Submit your 4-H Record Book. The book will be returned to you at the All Star Applicant Interview.
5. Letters of Recommendation
Submit a letter of recommendation from a 4-H Leader.
Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach or other adult
Submit a letter from a peer 4-H member.
6. All-Star Interview:
Once applications have been reviewed, interviews will be set up. You will participate in an interview with a panel of 3-4 people, including but not limited to: a member of the Marin County 4-H Council, a current All-Star, and the All Star Advisor.
7. Transcript
Submit a current school transcript.
