Starting the lesson
Greetings
  • Greet the class. Say hello! The class should answer hello!
  • If they don’t answer, say Hello!again, and put your hand behind your ear to show them you are waiting for their answer.
1Presentation
Getting to know the student and the ANB.
  • Before you start using your class materials, hold up the course book up and show it to the class. Tell them that: This is your book.
  • Repeat the procedure for ANB.
  • In Portuguese explain how the book is organised andlet your learners look at their books for a few moments (use this time to write the lesson number and date on the board).

Presenting the names of the charactersand greetings
  • Open your book on page 6 and hold it up to the class asking them to do the same. Point at the page.
  • Walk around the classroom and make sure everyone is on the same page.

  • Ask learners to be very quiet because they are going to listen to someone speaking.
  • Play track 1 and point at the characters. Repeat the procedure and ask learners to do the same

Practising the names of the characters
  • Play track 2 again, but now invite learners to repeat the characters’ names out loud.
  • Using flashcards, show them in a random order and ask learners to repeat the characters’ names.
Ending the lesson:
Saying goodbye
  • Display the flashcards in different areas of the classroom and ask: where’s Charlie?
  • Point at the appropriate flashcard. Repeat the procedure with the other characters and progressively increase the speed of the activity.
  • Ask learners to put their belongings away. Exemplify through mimicry.
  • Practise saying goodbye as the lesson comes to an end.

  • Learners open their ANB on page 2 and complete the matching exercise. After, they colour the four characters.
