PART 1 GENERAL

1.01RELATED DOCUMENTS

1.04SUBMITTALS

A.Completely itemized hardware schedule, coordinated with the schedule below, and the door schedule. Coordinate the final door hardware sets with doors, frames, and related work to ensure proper size, thickness, hand, function, and finish of door hardware.

B.Catalog cuts for each item specified.

C.Samples if required by the Architect. Include one representative piece of each item of hardware requested. Tag samples to show their intended use. Samples will be retained by the Architect until the project is nearly completed, at which time they may be incorporated into the work.

D.Paper templates, approved hardware schedule and, when required, actual hardware shall be sent to frame and door manufacturers in sufficient time for those manufacturers to prepare for hardware and to incorporate hardware into their products if required.

E.Wiring Diagrams: power, signal and control wiring.

1.05QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.Qualifications of Supplier: shall be a qualified member in good standing with Door and Hardware Institute (DHI) and certified as an Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) shall properly schedule and service hardware requirements, including delivery and installation of hardware.

B.Requirements of Regulatory Agencies: Comply with the following:

1.Exit Devices: Listed under "Panic Hardware" in the current edition of "UL" Accident and Burglary Protection Equipment List `or in a Supplement to that publication.

2.Fire-Rated Door Assemblies: Assemblies complying with NFPA80 that are listed and labeled by a testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, for fire ratings indicated, based on testing according to NFPA252.

3.Electrified Door Hardware: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA70, Article100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use.

4.Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: Department of Health National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101.

5.Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities (ADAGG).

6.Door and Hardware Institute (DHI) 1-703-222-2010.

7.Any hardware required by agencies above omitted from this section shall be furnished and installed.

1.06PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A.The installer shall use all means necessary to protect material of this Section before, during, and after installation, including protection of existing construction and the installed work of other trades.

B.In the event of damage to this or other trades or existing construction, replace damaged material at no additional cost.

C.Pack hardware in boxes. Plainly mark each box with the identification of the opening for which hardware is intended, including packing list showing each item enclosed, proper screws, bolts, accessories, and similar items in each box.

D.Deliver all products to job site in manufacturer's unopened containers with labels intact.

E.Check hardware on receipt at the project to insure that each set is complete and operative.

F.Store hardware in a manner which will prevent damage and which will insure that no items are removed from any set before installation.

1.07COORDINATION

A.Templates: Distribute door hardware templates for doors, frames, and other work specified to be factory prepared for installing door hardware. Check Shop Drawings of other work to confirm that adequate provisions are made for locating and installing door hardware to comply with indicated requirements.

B.Electrical System Roughing-in: Coordinate layout and installation of electrified door hardware with connections to power supplies, access control system, security system.

C.Existing Openings: Where new hardware components are scheduled for application to existing construction or where modifications to existing door hardware are required, field verify existing conditions and coordinate installation of door hardware to suit opening conditions and to provide for proper operation.

1.08WARRANTY

A.Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of door hardware that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

1.Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:

a.Structural failures including excessive deflection, cracking, or breakage.

b.Faulty operation of operators and door hardware.

c.Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal weathering and use.

2.Warranty Period: Threeyears from date of Substantial Completion, except as follows:

a.Exit Devices: Two years from date of Substantial Completion.

b.Manual Closers: 10years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01REQUIREMENTS

A.Sizes, weights and quality specified are minimum acceptable.

B.Should item of hardware not specified be required for completion of the work, furnish such items of types and quantities suitable for the service required and comparable to adjacent or similar hardware.

C.Should it be determined that specified hardware for any location, because of detail or size of member to which the hardware is to be applied, is unsuitable, provide hardware of the proper type. Such hardware shall be similar in operation to types specified and not of lesser quality.

D.Locks shall have keepers. Catches shall have strikes. Provide required escutcheons and plates.

E.Screws: All exposed screws shall be security type.

B.Finish of hardware and accessories as selected by Architect from selections above. Exposed portions of door closers shall have a sprayed finish to match adjacent hardware. Locksets, exit devices, push plates, pull plates and kickplates shall have matching finishes. Aluminum threshold and weatherstripping shall match adjacent hardware.

2.Substitutions:

Proposed substitutes shall be equal to the specified material with respect to size, quality, function, and finish. The supplier proposing to bid on substitute material shall request permission to do so from the architect not less than ten (10) days prior to bid date. If the substitution is allowed, it will be noted as an addendum. Deviation from this procedure will be cause for rejection of substitution request.

D.Butts – BHMA A156.1:

1.Furnish butts in types, weights, and sizes shown.

2.Furnish two (2) butts for each door 5’0” or less in height plus one (1) butt for each additional 2’6” in height or fraction thereof.

3.Furnish with non-removable pins (NRP) on all outswinging exterior doors.

4.Template hinge dimensions; BHMA A156.7.

E.Door Bolts – BHMA A156.16, Grade 1:

1.Flush bolts shall be equal to Rockwood Mfg. Company’s No. 555-12”, furnished for top and bottom of inactive leaf, complete with dustproof strike No. 570.

F.Door Closers – BHMA 156.4, Grade 1:

1.All door closers shall be the product of one (1) manufacturer and will be equal to LCN 4041 Series. All closers shall be of full rack and pinion construction, with separate valves for adjusting closing and latching speeds and hydraulic backcheck, adjustable spring providing Closer Sizes 1 through 6 and removable non-ferrous covers. Extra duty arms where specified.

Mounting applications to be: Standard or parallel with proper arm and brackets. Closer location subject to practicality and approval.

G.Locksets – BHMA A156.13, Grade 1:

1.Furnish Best ‘45h’ Series, ‘3-h’ Design heavy-duty type locksets and latchsets with 2-3/4” backset, 3/4 “ minimum throw latchbolt, and ANSI (1-1/4” X 4-7/8”) strike, in the functions specified.

H.Panic Hardware – BHMA A156.3, Grade 1:

1.All exit devices shall be the product of one (1) manufacturer and must be listed under ‘Panic Hardware’ in the Accident Equipment List of Underwriters’ Laboratories. In addition, where devices are required on labeled doors, devices will bear a ‘UL’ label indicating ‘Fire Exit Hardware’.

2.Devices shall be "Von Duprin “98” Series in types and functions specified and with "9961/03" Series outside trim. No Substitutions.

I.Door Pulls and Push Plates:

1.Furnish pull plates and push plates as specified.

2.Pull plates shall have grips attached to the plates at the factory.

J.Protections Plates – BHMA A156.6:

1.Kickplates shall be 18 gauge (.050) by 8” high by 2” less than the nominal width of single doors and 1” less than the nominal width of double doors, and installed on the stop (push) side. Beveled top and two sides.

K.Door Stops – BHMA A156.16, Grade 1:

1.Furnish some type of stop for each door opening against a wall, fixture, or equipment, complete with fasteners as required by detail. Furnish wall bumpers equal to Rockwood’s No. 409 wherever possible. General contractor to provide wood blocking in wall at each door stop location.

2.Furnish overhead stops and holders where specified:

a.Door Silencers – BHMA A146.16, Grade 1:

1.Furnish rubber door silencers for all hollow metal frames. Three (3) per single and two (2) per pair of doors, minimum diameter of ½ inch (13mm).

L.Key Cabinet – BHMA A156.5, Grade 1:

1.Lund type No. 1200 Series metal cabinet with baked enamel finish with two (2) tag system with index pocket for storage. Furnish all keys to owner at completion of job in a key cabinet complete with all keys properly tagged and indexed ready for owner’s use. Size as required, allow for 25% expansion.

M.Thresholds, Gasketing, Automatic Door Bottoms and Drip Caps:

1.Thresholds – BHMA A156.21: shall be the type specified under the hardware sets, furnished full length of opening with lead expansion shields for anchoring. All thresholds shall be set in full bed of mastic by contractor. Bevel raised thresholds with a slope of not more than 1:2. Provide thresholds not more than ½ inch (13mm) high.

2.Gasketing – BHMA A156.22: shall be of the type specified under the hardware sets, furnished for both jambs and head.

3.Automatic Door Bottoms shall be of the type specified under the hardware sets.

4.Drip Caps: shall be of the type specified under the hardware sets

O.Automatic Flush Bolts:

1.Provide automatic flush bolts where specified, as manufactured by Rockwood. Acceptable Substitutions: Door Controls or Glynn Johnson.

2.04KEYING

A.All locksets and cylinders shall be set to to the existing campus key system

B.All keying requirements to be coordinated and completed at factory to protect the integrity of the system. Field keying will not be permitted and will be considered as just cause for rejection of supplier.

C.Cylinder must be an integral part of lock as manufactured by specified lock supplier. Substitution of foreign made cylinders or components will not be allowed and also will be cause for rejection of supplier.

D.Keys shall be furnished as follows:

1. Change keys (3) each.

2. Master keys (3) each set.

3. Grand Master Keys (3).

4. Construction Master Keys (3).

5. Core removal key (3).

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01INSTALLATION

A.Examine areas in which the hardware is to be installed and report

any areas which are unsatisfactory. Do not proceed with the work until such areas have been corrected.

B.Hardware shall be installed hardware in a neat and workmanlike manner, in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications so that it operates smoothly, quietly, and properly. Inspect installed hardware and leave it in first class operating condition.

C.Take care not to mark or damage adjacent work. Repair or replace damaged work to the Architect's satisfaction.

D.Secure bumpers to walls with toggle bolts or expansion shields as required by wall or partition construction.

E.Examine rough openings for electrical power system to verify actual locations of wiring connections before electrified hardware installation.

F.Installation of steel doors and frames: DHI A115 series.

G.Installation of wood doors: DHI A115-W series.

3.02ADJUSTING

A.Adjust and check each operating item of door hardware and each door to ensure proper operation or function of every unit. Replace units that cannot be adjusted to operate as intended. Adjust door control devices to compensate for final operation of heating and ventilating equipment and to comply with referenced accessibility requirements.

1.Strikes: Adjust horizontal and vertical alignment of keeper to properly engage lock bolt.

3.03CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A.Clean adjacent surfaces soiled by door hardware installation.

B.Clean operating items as necessary to restore proper function and finish.

C.Provide final protection and maintain conditions that ensure that door hardware is without damage or deterioration at time of Substantial Completion.

A.The following schedule is included as a guide in establishing the quality, type, and function of hardware required for each opening and is not to be construed as all inclusive. Quantities listed under each hardware set for each opening, whether a pair or single door.
