/ 240This qualification is expiring. The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2013.
Purpose
The National Diploma in Engineering (Process and Materials Engineering) (Level 6) is designed to fill a technological gap in existing tertiary programmes, with a special focus on the chemical and food processing industries, and to introduce content on environmental considerations. It recognises the skills and knowledge needed to gain employment in process and materials engineering where the application of analytical, industrial, laboratory and/or fieldwork skills are required. These skills are used to carry out the procedures associated with technical investigations and to process and report on the results of these investigations clearly and concisely (generally under supervision).
The emphasis is on a synergy between cognitive and practical skills in process and materials engineering.
National Diploma in Engineering (Process and Materials Engineering) (Level 6) graduates can be expected to possess a broad understanding of engineering fundamentals, science and mathematics, and to have built capabilities in process and materials engineering on this base to the level required for employment. This qualification could provide a base for further industry linked qualifications or a pathway to higher level engineering diplomas or degrees.

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF National QualificationsCredit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website:
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
