Purpose

This is an entry level qualification for people working or intending to work in the marine retail or distribution industry sectors. This qualification is intended to be completed in the workplace or through a combination of workplace and off-job training.

All of the standards in this qualification are compulsory. These standards cover skills and knowledge related to the New Zealand marine industry such as industry terminology, equipment, fittings, and boat operation knowledge. They also cover skills and knowledge relating to the operation of a computer, care and timeliness as an employee, workplace health and safety, customer service, sales transactions, communication, personal presentation, workplace calculations, and theft and fraud.

This qualification leads on to the National Certificate in Marine Sales and Services (Marine Retail and Distribution) (Level 4) [Ref: 1472] and the National Certificate in Marine Sales and Services (Boat Sales and Brokerage) (Level 4) [Ref: 0550].

Special Notes

People in the workforce may have demonstrated competence in the outcomes specified in some of the standards in this qualification. These candidates should seek recognition of their current competence wherever it is relevant to this qualification.

Recognition of current competence must be carried out by accredited providers or registered assessors in accordance with NZQA guidelines.

Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Transition Arrangements

Version 3

Version 3 was issued to update the content of the qualification. The qualification had not been reviewed since 2001.

Changes to structure and content

·  The title was changed to National Certificate in Marine Sales and Services (Marine Retail and Distribution (Level 2).

·  The overall credit total of the qualification changed from 59 to 80.

·  Standards 11951, 12349, 25343, and 25345 were added to the Compulsory section.

·  Standard 6915 was replaced by standard 26542 in the Compulsory section.

·  Standard 11970 was replaced by standard 24997 in the Compulsory section.

·  The titles, levels, credit values, and classifications of reviewed standards were updated.

People involved in programmes or courses that lead to the award of version 2 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of that version by December 2012 or transfer their results to version 3. People who want to complete the requirements of version 2 must gain credit for expiring standard 11970 before its expiry date: 31 December 2011.

All new candidates will be enrolled in programmes or courses leading to the award of version 3 of the qualification.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replaced standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.

Quality Management Systems
