04MAY17 NCRR General Meeting Minutes

Business meeting convened by President Brian Hirschlerat 6:59PM. Board members present were President Brian Hirschler, V-P Bruce Garris, Sec. Allan Barker, Treasurer & VP Cathy Hogan, Jeff Kokeand Dan Kniseley.

  1. A motion was made and seconded to not read April’s general business meeting minutes.
  2. Secretary Barker read the April Board of Director meeting minutes.
  3. Dixie Wheel Gun: Chairman Barker reported that 16 shooters netted $80.00 for April. Dixie Wheel Gun is the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
  4. President Brian Hirschler asked (3) first time visitors to introduce themselves: Robert Hughes, Fred Schoenward and Joe Caddy.
  5. V-P Bruce Garrisexplained the membership application process: there is the initial application request followed by completion of the appropriate form, a non-refundable $150 application fee, VSSA & NRA membership, a background check or valid CCW permit, a completed signature card, a first reading, a walk-through and a second reading.
  6. V-P Garris asked (2) first readers to introduce themselves: Tony Burns and Tim Redmond.
  7. President Hirschlerreminded us the upcoming Women On Target event on May 6th. President Hirschler also announced that Dwight Hughes’ departure from the BOD prompted Dan Kniseley’s appointment as Dwight’s replacement.
  8. Rob Moser mentioned that all new keys and badges had been handed out or mailed. Let Rob know if you have not received your new key/badge.
  9. Treasurer’s Report: Cathy Hogan reported that our net income for the month of April was $2358. Paper copies of her report are available for review
  10. Trustee George Hartsell reported that he would have an update on our investment strategy at the next BOD meeting on May 11th.
  11. V-P Garrispraised John and Cheryl LeClair for their commitment to providing supplies, snacks and drinks to our club.
  12. Executive Ryan Hess reminded us of the May 13th work party – parking lot fill-in, more security camera installation and work on the indoor range. NCRR has brass for sale at 2.5 cents per round –any caliber.
  13. Archery: Neil Arter reminded us of the May 7th FITA match. Archery league shoots are over and beginner classes are on Thursday’s.
  14. CRSO: Dan Kniseley needs a few more RSO’s for the WOT event. Dan thanked Ryan Hess and his volunteers for their security camera installation and debugging. He reminded us to keep our rounds above the railroad ties and below the red boards.
  15. Gun shows: Leonard Jones needs volunteers at the Hampton Coliseum on May 12th and 13th and again at the Norfolk Scope on May 27th and 28th.
  16. IDPA Report: Co-Chairman Jeff Koke reported that IDPA events netted $750 for the month with an additional $215 for tac-shotgun. An IDPA classifier is scheduled for May 26th; you must register on-line one-week prior to the event. The recent VIR netted $3524. A BUG/CCP match is scheduled for October 20th and the 21st – fee is $75 per entrant with eight stages (two of them in the dark).
  17. Juniors: Lynn Wheelessmentioned that many Junior’s participants’ parents thanked NCRR for their patience and dedication with their provided training. Juniors fields about (21) entrants on Monday nights. Lynn thanked the NCRR RO’s for their tireless efforts to make the Juniors program a success. Lynn also mentioned that Rob Miller has run the Juniors event for 35 years.
  18. USA Shooting: Lynn Wheeless reported that Michael Zanti placed 34th of 177 shooters at the Junior Olympics April 7th – 9th 10 meter air rifle event.
  19. Ladies League: Theresa Owensmentioned that April’s self-defense class yielded only (7) participants. May’s event includes outdoor archery and indoor open pistol. If the WOT event is rained out, the rain date is May 20th.
  20. Bullseye: Ken McKenna mentioned that Bullseye League ends on May 16th. There is no firm date yet, but the .22 league begins in June. President Hirschler thanked Ken and Art Praynor for their Bullseye efforts.
  21. High-Power Rifle: In Bob Ryan’s absence, V-P Garris said the next rifle match is scheduled for May 27th.
  22. .22 Rimfire: In John Cobb’s absence, David Hall reminded us that rimfire pistol is the 2nd Wednesday of the month; rifle is the 4th Wednesday of the month. In the future he’d like to try a bowling pin match – more details to follow.
  23. Trap Shotgun: Cathy Hogan reported that (120) shooters competed in (346) rounds of trap for $1730 for the month of April.
  24. On the call for new business, Wes Latchford said that an NRA provided a grant to cover some of our recent flood loss – new hearing and eye protection, pistol targets and 3k rounds of .22 ammunition. Wes would like the membership to forward pictures to him about various club events. Please get use approval of photographed people whose pictures may be used in a newsletter. Les said that there would newspaper and television coverage of a meeting of VA gubernatorial candidates in Smithfield on May 6th. He requested that we turn out to support our 2nd amendment rights.
  25. A reminder that Donny Tabor’s Freedom Hunters event is scheduled for June 24th. A combined trap and tac-shotgun match can accept as many as (40) entrants.
  26. Ricky Livers said that there are two camps of 2nd amendment rights politicians – one group supports the 2nd amendment right of the common man and the second group supports only a state-sponsored militia.
  27. The 50/50 drawing awarded $90 to the winner with a like amount going to the club.
  28. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45PM.
