Applications are invited for a full-time post in General Adult Psychiatry based in West Renfrewshire.Mental Health services in Renfrewshire are provided by integrated health and social work multidisciplinary CMHTs, supported by an intensive home treatment team and a primary care mental health team.

This full time (10 PA) post is based at the West Renfrewshire Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), with in patient duties in South Ward, Dykebar.The postholder will be supported by appropriate medical secretary time. Responsibilities will be shared between a total of 10 general adult psychiatrists in Renfrewshire, and the successful applicant would be expected to work closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to patients.

The successful candidate would be encouraged to take the opportunities available for further education and continuing professional development. There are active education and audit programmes within the service.Out of Hours on call responsibilities will be shared with other consultant colleagues on an approximately 1:32 rota.

Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher Specialist Training in adult general psychiatry leading to a CCT in Psychiatry or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview. JOB DESCRIPTION

CONSULTANT GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRIST –

West RenfrewshireCMHT

Applications are invited from a dynamic and enthusiastic individual for this 10PA General Adult post. Responsibilities would be shared, along with the other Consultants, for aweighted adult population of 46,000 people in West Renfrewshire sector with in patient beds located in DykebarHospital. There is an established Community Mental Health Team in West Renfrewshire, and the successful applicant will be expected to work closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to inpatients and outpatients. They will join 18 other Consultants in Renfrewshire and will take part in a combined on call rota on a pro rata basis. They will be supported by Junior Doctor time and Medical Secretary input.

  1. Present Service Provision

Community mental health services in Renfrewshire are part of Renfrewshire HSCP, and cover a total population of 181,481. The Mental Health Partnership for Greater Glasgow and Clyde supports and coordinates the delivery of adult mental health services delivered by CHCPs in four divisions across the Board area: South Clyde, South Glasgow, West Glasgow and Northeast Glasgow.

The Head of Service for Mental Health in Renfrewshire is Katrina Phillips and the Clinical Director is Dr Alexander Thom. The Community services manager is James Clocherty. The Associate Medical Director for Mental Health is Dr Michael Smith, and the HSCP Chief Officer is David Leese.

Inpatient psychiatric services in Renfrewshire are provided at Dykebar and LeverndaleHospitals, which have 37 acute inpatient beds. The hospital has access to a total of 8intensive psychiatric care unit beds based in Inverclyde. A total of 20 beds provide inpatient intensive rehabilitation and continuing care services for South Clyde and are based at Dykebar.

Adult Mental Health Services are currently based round two joint health and social work community mental health teams (CMHTs) - a Paisley CMHT based at the Charleston Centre, Paisley and a West Renfrewshire/Renfrew CMHT based at Mile End Mill in Paisley.

The Paisley CMHT is based at the Charleston Centre, and currently comprises 1 Staff Grade, 1 Nurse Team Leader, 5.0 Band 7s, 3.0 Band 5-6, 2.0 Support Workers, 2.0 OT's, 1.0 Consultant Psychologist, 1.0 Social Worker Team Leader, 4.0 Social Workers, 1.0 Social work Assistant, and 3.0 SW Support Workers.

The West Renfrewshire/Renfrew Adult Community Mental Health Team currently consists of 2 job share nurse team leaders, 1 Social work Team Leader,5.0 Band 7s, 3.0 Band 5-6 Nurses, 5.0 Support Workers, 1.0 Senior Occupational Therapist, 1.0 Grade A Psychologist, 4.0 Social Workers/MHOs and 1.0 Social Work Assistant.

The “Doing Well” team (12 clinicians including 0.2 WTE consultant psychiatrist) provides treatment for all patients presenting with a new episode of low mood in Renfrewshire.

The “Intensive Home Treatment Team” (IHTT) provides emergency assessments, gatekeeps all new admissions and provides home treatment where indicated. The team operates from 9am to 8pm weekdays and 10am to 6pm weekends and holidays. The team comprises of 1.0Consultant Psychiatrist,0.5 Specialty Doctor, 1.8 Team Secretaries, 1 Team Leader, 8 Senior IHTT Practitioners (7 nurses & 1 social worker) and 4 IHTT Practitioners (all of which are nurses).

There are separate teams for Liaison Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Services. Patients in Renfrewshire have access to specialist psychology, psychotherapy and addiction services. The GG&C Perinatal Service, based at Leverndale, provides GG&C wide services and the ESTEEM service provides Early Intervention Psychosis services. Forensic service provision includes a forensic CMHT for South Clyde. The Community Eating Disorder Service Is based in East Glasgow with admission beds at Stobhill.

Child and Adolescent Services are based at oldRenfrew Health Centre but the inpatient beds are provided at GartnavelRoyalHospital and YorkhillHospital respectively. There are 10 Learning Disability assessment/treatment beds and a Community Learning Disability Team.

3.Duties of the Post

This 10PA consultant post is based at the West Renfrewshire Community Mental Health Team. The successful applicant will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive General Adult Psychiatric service to the West Renfrewshirearea. This area has a weighted population of 46,000.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide a comprehensive range of services to General Adult patients and graduate elderly patients. This will include inpatient and outpatient treatments working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. In patient beds are located in South Ward, Dykebar hospital. The current bed provision is 13.

He or she will participate in the daytime on call rota, out of hours on call rota (Renfrewshire is covered by the GG&C OOH CPN service) and cover for colleagues during absence in line with arrangements set out in the National Terms and Conditions. The on call rota covers the whole of Renfrewshire and full time Consultants are on call 2 or 3 days per month. Domiciliary visits, court reports, Mental Health Act/Adults with Incapacity work and liaison assessments will be undertaken as required. The post will have sessional support as required from a Medical Secretary and access to a ST1-3/FY2 doctor.

In the Paisley sector 43% of the population are within DEPCAT 1-4 and 57% are within DEPCAT 5-7, for an adult population of 56,734. The West CMHT is based at Anchor Mill in Paisley, and provides services to Renfrew, Johnstone, Linwood, Kilbirnie, Erskine, Lochwinnoch and surrounding areas. (In the West Renfrewshire/Renfrew sector, 62% of the population are within DEPCAT 1-4 and 38% are within DEPCAT 5-7, which represents average levels of deprivation for Scotland).

Continuing Professional Development

The post holder will be expected to maintain good professional standing for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. There is a study leave budget and medical staff are encouraged to ensure that they keep their practice up to date. In addition the post holder will be expected to take part in the annual cycles of peer review, appraisal and job planning.

4.Teaching/Administration

The post holder will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the proper function of the clinical team including appraisal, clinical and non-clinical supervision of medical staff and clinical supervision of non-medical staff. He or she will also be expected to participate in the broader aspect of administration and management within the Renfrewshire Division of Psychiatry and the Renfrewshire Community Health Partnership.

It is expected that the successful candidate will take part in Job Planning, Appraisal, Peer Review and Continuing Professional Development. Participation in audit or research is encouraged. The post holder will be actively involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical students. In addition the post holder will be expected to participate in the postgraduate teaching of medical staff and staff of other disciplines.

This job plan is negotiable and will be agreed between the successful applicant and the Clinical Director. NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde initially allocates all full time consultants 10 PAs made up of 9 PAs in Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and one core Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning, internal routine communication and management meetings. The precise allocation of SPA time and associate objectives will be agreed with the successful applicant and will be reviewed at annual job planning.

SUPERANNUATION / You have the option to join the NHS Superannuation Scheme, to participate in the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme or to take out a Personal Pension.Employee’s contributions to the NHS Scheme are Tiered based on your earnings and the employers contribution equates to 13.5 % of salary.
