Job Description

Title:Dispenser

Salary:To be agreed depending on experience

Qualifications:A minimum of GCSE level qualifications preferably in English and Mathematics. You should already hold theNVQ2 dispensing qualification.

Hours of Work:The post is Part time, approximately 20-24 hoursper week which is negotiable.The post holder would be expected to be willing to work overtime to help provide leave cover for other members of the team when necessary. The post holder will also be required to join a Saturday morning rota to coverreception for the emergency surgery 9.00-10.00am [currently one Saturday in ten]. The Saturday morning hours would be 9.00-11.00am.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. To work together with the pharmacy team to provide a timely and professional service.
  2. To dispense acute prescriptions throughout the pharmacyopening hours.
  3. To dispense repeat prescriptions for collection within 48 hours [2 working days.
  4. To train/already trained to be able to dispense prescriptions for and prepare MDS {Monitored Dose Systems] when required.
  5. To undertake appropriate training, in-housetraining provided,to attain the level of competence required for the post.
  6. To undertake mandatory training elements as required under CQC.
  7. To help provide cover for other members of the dispensing team in their absence.
  8. To work closely with the pharmacy and practice primary healthcare teams to provide a high quality service to clients/patients.
  9. To develop an understanding of Data Protection and Information Governance as required to carry out your duties.

Specific Tasks:

  1. To liaise with wholesalers for the supply of stock, and enter this on the computer when supplies have been delivered and checked.
  2. Telephone repeat prescriptions to Reavleys of Burford and the Pharmacy at Charlbury and other pharmacies, for collection by patients living there, and ensure prescriptions are sent out appropriately.
  3. To receive in-house training on dispensing and pharmacy systems, currently all dispensing through EMIS web clinical system.
  4. To maintain relevant computerised records.
  5. To ensure ready supply of bottles, caps, etc.
  6. To process repeat prescription requests by regularly clearing the voicemail requests, dealing with online ordering, emptying the designated box in the foyer, responding to emails and receiving written requests.
  7. To ensure that the medication review protocol is adhered to and where relevant ensure medication requests are placed on the doctor’s medication review screen. To regularly check medication review screens for action points and take appropriate action.
  8. Upon completion of training join other members of the team in carrying out dispensing review of use of medicines [DRUMS] with individual Wychwood Surgery dispensing patients as per protocol.
  9. To liaise with the doctors and receptionists to ensure that screen messages or patient notes regarding medication queries are dealt with promptly.
  10. To answer telephone enquiries to the Pharmacy.
  11. Check that pack sizes are correct on the computer and liaise with the computer firm when updates are needed.
  12. To operate computerised ordering system with wholesalers.
  13. To maintain accurate stock levels.
  14. Enter batch numbers on to computer to enable records to be maintained in accordance with product liability requirements.
  15. To check exemption certificates and patient details accordingly.
  16. To provide annual and training leave cover for the dispensing team.
  17. To provide Saturday morning reception cover as per rota. (Currently 1 weekend in 10) [Relevant training will be given but duties include answering telephone, greeting and booking-in patients]
  18. To attend Pharmacy team and Practice meetings as appropriate.
  19. To undertake appropriate in-house training as required under CQC regulations.
  20. To undertake appropriate in-house training as may be required under the Health & Safety Act, pharmacy and/or GP Surgery legislation requirements ie Basic Life Support, Fire Awareness & Data Protection
  21. Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post
