Review of March 2010 Minutes / Research Proposal: Study of PCT and RN Interaction Patterns and Work Practices in Relation to Call Light Responsiveness by Mary O'Connell and Julia DiBenigno has been endorsed by Marsha Maurer and is being reviewed by the IRB.
Research Proposal: Roles During a Cardiac Arrest by Allison McHugh is in its final review process and will be sent to the IRB soon.

Programs providing continuing education contact hours / Eight programs provided continuing education contact hours for nurses.
Laurie submitted BIDMC’s application to Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses. to continue to be an approved provider for Continuing Education credits. The application is submitted every 3 years and approved in July. / Laurie Bloom / May:

Nursing Grand Rounds:

Clinical Nurse Research Fellowship Update / Evidence Based 101 Course will be completed today. / Tina Gosselin / Next month’s meeting, Joanne Dalton will recap both Evidence Based 101 and 102 Courses.
The sub-committee will reconvene and report back in next month’s meeting regarding the sabbatical program.
National Nurses Week Update
and
Nursing Grand Rounds (NGR) / Nurses Week was a great success. There were numerous Nursing Grand Round’s (NGR)held in various locations during Nurses Week (May 3rd-14th). Volume was high across the medical center during this time which hindered high attendanceas hoped, but still well attended.
Ideas from Council Members for next years Nurses Week:
  • Bring things to the units
- Cart with muffins/ice cream
- Lunch and Learn
- Quiet time, pull staff to location
on unit for 15 minutes
  • Film NGR and make available on portal
  • Plan staffing for attendance
- Day event (all day)
- Few hours throughout day
  • Poster Sessions
-Avilable in the lobby which all can see, at leisure
-Posters in cases
-Posters on bridge
-Session time is usually between 2-4 which is discharge time on units
NGR’s on June 16th will be on anorexia which is from a Farr 5 and outpatient case. There will be no NRG’s for the summer months and will reconvene in September. / Laurie Bloom
Guidelines for Affiliated Schools of Nursing / Student Placement Process / The Guidelines for Affiliated Schools of Nursing needs to be reviewed and approved before October 2010. Schools of Nursing receiving this guideline in the mid-summer to distribute to clinical instructors, so the goal is to have the guideline approved no later than the June meeting.
Feedback from Council Members regarding the guidelines:
  • Grammatical changes
  • Fix page numbers to reflect accurate pages
  • Change Education Nurse Specialist to reflect current roles
  • No cell phones for personal use, ringers off
  • Dress code: reflect no artificial nails, specialty areas have different dress codes, and refer to BIDMC dress code.
  • Security Identification for Students: no codes written on IDs
  • Computer Access: Nurse Manager is responsible to grant access and turn off access if they agree to allow independent practicum student IS access.
  • Omni Cell Access: cannot be granted to students who are not registered nurses.
  • BIDMC Nursing Staff: add that patient’s nurse will supplement documentation as necessary.
