Map out the British Isles

For this assignment, you will create two maps and a timeline that will help you better understand the era leading up to the Anglo-Saxon time period and that time period itself. You will do this on your own sheet of paper. Trace the map of the British Isles on page 13 to use as your template.

Part A:

Map Title: Pre-Anglo-Saxon Era (before 449 A.D.)

****The Celtic people were the first on the British Isles.

1. Label the following places: Britain, Ireland, Scotland, France.

2. Label where the groups of people lived on the British Isles: Britons, Picts, Gaels, and the Gauls.

3. Use arrows and labels to show what happened to the Picts after the Roman invasion. To where did they move?

Part B:

Map Title: Anglo-Saxon Era Map (449-1066 A.D.)

1. Label north, south, east, and west on your map.

2. Use arrows and labels to show where the Anglo-Saxon Germanic tribes pushed the Celtic Britons to on the British Isles.

3. Use the map on the back of this to help you label the names of the places the Germanic tribes lived and also the Germanic tribes in those locations. Color each “kingdom” area a different color.

Part C:

Create a timeline of the successors of Alfred the Great (including him) through the end of the Anglo-Saxon era. Label on your timeline at least one characteristic of the king and/or an event that took place during his reign. (Hint: You will have a total of four for the Anglo-Saxon era.)
